Bodhi Ryder shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Bodhi , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Hey guys, Bodhi Ryder here. Hope you enjoy my new interview with SD Voyager!
~
So for me, all three are pretty clearly worth having for us as humans.
But I think it’s pretty safe to say that having intelligence, or energy, or even both, without integrity, isn’t worth the trade. Without integrity, we lose grasp of who we are as human beings. We could be the most intelligent people in the world, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that we have wisdom, and without wisdom, we lose compassion.
Of course, energy is also great, but I also think that having integrity can give people energy. It gives us strength to fight for the things that are important for us. And when our integrity is challenged, or when we learn something new, it is often a humbling experience. To me this is the basis for how anyone should live their lives. If we sacrifice all the good in us for things that we believe will get us to where we need to go, we are willingly throwing away the oar that we will inevitably need to row ourselves to safety in the future.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Bodhi Ryder.
I am a world adventurer and a storyteller. I’ve written almost 10 novels now throughout the course of my career, along with having a graphic novel adaptation of the book series in the works as well. The series I’m most known for is The Curseborn Saga, a high-fantastic epic that is planned to span 13 novels. The 5th book, Brotherhood: The Curseborn Saga, Book 5, is set to release on September 7th of 2025, which will conclude the second arc of the series.
I also wrote a standalone novel called The Monastery, a kind of classic fable about a prince raised by a shoemaker.
In the meantime, I travel around the world with my lovely wife. We’ve lived in Nepal with the monks, trekked the Himalayas, and have now been living in South America for almost 2 years. We live about 40 miles from Machu Piccu in Cusco, Peru, and truthfully, these adventures are only the tip of the iceberg of the life we’ve been living for the last 10 years.
I live to write one of the greatest stories ever told, if not several of them.
And I will spend every breath of my life working towards that dream.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Pride breaks the bonds between most people.
As a storyteller for over 15 years, and having written over 4ooo pages or so at this point, I can say that pride is the most destructive force in the world. It doesn’t matter where you come from, if you’re a man or a woman, anyone can have pride. And as the old saying goes, “Pride cometh before the fall.”
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yeah, there was actually a time that I did give up.
I had been working on the books for around 12 years, and at some point in following your dream, you can’t help but feel lonely. I felt overworked, and without guarantee that anything would come of my suffering and efforts. I knew inside that I could never truly give up, but for one day I did. Just so that i could see what it would be like if i did give up, to see what I would be truly giving away from myself.
And the next day, I knew it. I knew it from the moment that I gave up. I knew that even if i did have a day of weakness, I could never actually give up. Because my very soul is depending on me fulfilling this journey. I learned that sometimes it’s alright to fall down, as long as you have the strength to get back up again.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
No one knows the truth.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Nothing.
