We recently had the chance to connect with Chicas and Chisme Podcast and have shared our conversation below.
Chicas and Chisme Podcast, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Something that is bringing us joy are the simple things in life. Some examples would be taking a scenic walks by the beach, getting a good work out in, spending time with loved ones, eating good food and pampering ourselves.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We are Chicas and Chisme Podcast. Our names are Karla and Angelica. We are single moms navigating through the challenges of life, doing it all by ourselves. We came up with this podcast 3 years ago because we wanted to share our conversations and lives with others. We wanted to help other people the way were helping each other. We wanted to let people know that they were not alone in their experiences and build a community. Right now we are working on expanding our Youtube channel and hopefully reach a broader range of people outside of California. We want to continue to bring on guests that make in impact on our listeners.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
We believe that when trust is broken bonds break between people. This could mean not showing up for someone, lying, lack of consideration, lack of communication and intentionally and unintentionally hurting others. We believe that the way to restore the bonds between people is by open communication, showing up for them, reciprocity, having empathy and being patient.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
We stopped hiding the pain when we realized we weren’t using it to empower others or ourselves. We saw that our pain had purpose and it made us resilient, empathetic and real. We began to use it to connect with others. We poured our pain into the podcast. Our pain didn’t go away, we just stopped it from letting it control us.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
The version that is shown on our podcast is the real authentic us. We are genuinely just having normal day to day conversations and sharing them with our listeners. We want our listeners to know who we really are and to feel like they are joining in on the conversation.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
We feel most at peace when we break from the day to day routines and travel. We have committed to taking an annual trip to a destination of our choice. This brings us peace, happiness and gratitude. This allows us to disconnect and see what this world has to offer. Every time we’ve traveled we’ve returned a better version of ourselves. Our favorite trip by far has been our trip to Oaxaca, Mexico. It was a spiritual and peaceful experience.
