Story & Lesson Highlights with Cynthia Fletes of San Diego

We recently had the chance to connect with Cynthia Fletes and have shared our conversation below.

Cynthia, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I am being called to be a fisher of men for my Father, God almighty! I was afraid to declare my faith but after the last 18 months, I can honestly say that He is the only reason I am still standing. Letting Go and letting God is not as easy as you might think. Walking by faith and not by sight is the scariest thing I have been called to do, I am a control freak with Project Manager skills so not being in control is out of character for me. But as Psalms 46:10 states: “Be still, and know that I am God…!:

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a seasoned Latina/Disabled female in the middle of my life working a full time job and running an event planning, party rentals, DJ, MC, Bilingual Notary Public/Wedding Officiant, set up and break down company in the most beautiful state of California for the greatest county/city of San Diego County.

I have over 30 years of experience managing, creating, developing, planning, mitigating and executing events, project and all types of milestones and activities. I manage a team of up to 12 members and vendors as well as contractors and now I am managing a party event venue/hall in the heart of La Mesa, Ca called The Secret Place-La Mesa. God’s blessing my small company with big events. We do it all from small backyard parties to grand weddings/quinces/sweet sixteens up to Military balls for up to 5000 guests.

We pride ourselves on providing quality event planning and entertainment for all of your event needs including corporate and non-profit events. Our reviews are five-stars for a reason……

Our goal is to make your event memorable and enjoyable. Let us plan it and stress over it so you can enjoy it!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Trust is the bond that holds people together. Whether it is a romantic relationship, family, work, friendship or vendor, trust is the one thing that once broken takes a lifetime to restore. It is not impossible but it is hard work. As your planner/vendor, we start by trusting that you know what you want and that we will provide it regardless. Without trust between us and our clients, it doesn’t matter how well we perform. What matters is that we do what we say, say what we mean and create a relationship based on mutual trust. I have had to decline some proposals because we either are not a fit or the client is not as forthcoming as they state. In the interest of growing our business, we will not expose our company to providing sub-par service. We strive for five -stars always even if we do not meet them we will make things right one way or another. That is TRUST!

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
My biggest fear was and continuous to be disappointment. I have been disappointed several times in my life by partners, children, family, friends and myself. It is never hard to accept disappointment from others as it is to accept my own. I am hard on myself and sometimes it causes me to retreat, regroup and re-engage. We are our own worse critique and so we take it extremely personal when we disappoint others. I know the feeling all too well so when this happens with. a client, I always strive to find a way to atone or make up for the disappointment. It is not always easy but it is always do-able.

I am most proud of myself for always bouncing back regardless of what is going on, but disappointment is hard to come back from. I equate it to going to Disneyland and finding out it is really just a regular park. Imagine no Mickey or Goofy….I shudder.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
What you see is definitely what you get. I am a LEO and we have this keen ability to speak our mind, say what we mean and mean what we say, be open, honest and sometimes opinionated but mostly we are kind and compassionate. That is my downfall. No matter what is done to me I always believe that we all have good inside of us and people tend to take advantage of me. I know this so I am always ready to forgive and move on. I may not forget but I also dont hold on to it. I try to live life in my Heavenly Father’s footsteps. I am a firm. believer that God has me and has blessed me with favor and lots of love so who am I to deny forgiveness?

Once people meet me, they know that I am trustworthy, honest and dependable. In my line of work, we have to be ready to adapt to changes otherwise we will not succeed. Owning responsibility and accountability are the traits of a good leader and I want to be a great one someday!

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am blessed in many ways. I am doing what I love to do while doing what I was told to do. I get to bring people’s dreams to life and be creative while following their directive. I get to dive deep into your most inner thoughts to pull your vision so that when I execute it you will believe you did it alone. I love making people smile, laugh and mostly cry out of joy. This is a part of me that I relish because I know I had a part in it.

Every role, job and career choice I have made has brought me joy and has helped me promote to the next level. I have never had a job I have always held down roles that I love. Imagine yourself as me, you get to plan, spend money, create visions and execute joy all the while you are enjoying yourself. What better life could you ask for?!
