We recently had the chance to connect with Dots One and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dots, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day start with taking care of my pets! I have 2 cats and 2 dogs so mornings are quite hectic! From going out to walk the doggos in the am to breakfast ! Once they’re all set up I prep my lunch for work, make my coffee, and head out for work! Takes about a ten minute walk to the bus stop and ten more to get me to work! I’ve made friends with my daily bus driver and i get dropped off right in front of my work!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jacquelyn Alvarez but I’m known in my community as Dots One. My brand is Connecting the Dots.
Thru Connecting the Dots I allow myself to work thru all my hats! I’m a graphic designer, I’m a large format printer, I’m and artist, jeweler, photographer, collage artist, street artist and people connector. My biggest thing with connecting the dots is helping serve my community with myself, or with people that can help. Chances are I can help or I know someone that can help. Now days with technology, it’s hard to have a human to human connection and that’s what I strive for. Conversations, story telling, healing thru words. I love helping friends and family with their small businesses.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Communication. Definitely communication. It will make or break any bond.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t worry what others will think about you Love yourself. You’re beautiful. Don’t doubt that.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. I try to stay as real as possible in real life and over social media. I think a lot of people get caught up with trying to make their lives all positive and forget that real life has ups and downs. Genuine and grateful to be able to show that you don’t need to lie to be successful. Raw and unedited.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
Creating. From digital designs to collage work and painting canvases. I get lost in the sauce. It’s like the tv in back of my head gets turned off. Zoning out on colors. Bringing to life clients ideas for logos or digital designs. I love it
