Story & Lesson Highlights with Kathy Sebuck of San Diego

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kathy Sebuck. Check out our conversation below.

Kathy, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I always lose track of time when I’m doing something fun and active outside. Whether I’m trail running, playing golf, riding my bike, or spending time with horses, I love to be part of nature’s backdrop to physically reset and find connected balance.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I spent more than 20 years in corporate tech sales and marketing leadership — including roles at Sun Microsystems, Microsoft, SAP and Amazon Web Services — helping teams drive growth through strategy, innovation, and storytelling. After launching my consulting company, Marchitecture, I began exploring what truly fuels sustainable success beyond performance metrics — discovering that connection, resilience, and balance are just as essential as strategy and leadership.

As a former Division I collegiate track and field athlete and longtime competitive sprint triathlete, I’ve always been fascinated by the mindset behind peak performance. That curiosity inspired my pivot into growth mindset consulting, equine-guided learning, and leadership coaching, work that now blends my corporate experience with the wisdom of horses to help leaders and teams thrive from the inside out.

Through my book, Waves of Change: Growth Mindset Tools for Connected Balance, and my equine-based team building programs, I guide others to reconnect with purpose, communication, and authentic leadership — creating space for both personal growth and professional impact.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My father was a high school football coach for 56 years and instilled in me early that passion, integrity, and work ethic is really the secret to success. Throughout my career, many of my mentors have echoed this sentiment along with the importance of building authentic relationships.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
I have learned over the years through various failed projects that failure is the best teacher. If you can detach from the disappointment and are open to learn, each failure is a teachable moment about clarity, alignment, and focus that can set you up for future success.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. I think being in alignment with your authentic self and what you believe, regardless of the environment you are in with whom, is very freeing and powerful. I don’t feel the need to hide who I am at this point in my life.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
Nothing. I live by the rule of “no regrets”. I am a curious learner who likes to experience life, so I take risks and try all kinds of new things regardless of their outcome to see what I can learn.
