Lael Barry shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Lael, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Yoga. It’s the one place where everything in me settles. The moment I step onto the mat, the world gets quiet enough for me to hear myself again. The movement, the breath, the heat- it’s the only practice that lets me disappear into the moment and come back more centered, clearer, and stronger than when I started.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Lael Barry, and I’m the founder of Ecolux Goods, a California Social Impact Corporation creating luxury, sustainable gifting for women and for the hospitality industry. Our signature products are 22k gold-dipped solid-silver “Sipper” straws and other elevated pieces designed for modern entertaining- artisanal, sustainable, and meant to last.
My path here wasn’t linear. I grew up in a high-control religious environment, left young, rebuilt my life from nothing, and spent years behind the salon chair mastering precision, discipline, and service. Entrepreneurship became my freedom story. Ecolux is the chapter where luxury and impact finally meet.
What makes the brand unique is our commitment to craftsmanship and sustainability at the highest level – partnering with artisan jewelers, protecting ocean systems, and proving that beautiful things can also be responsible things. We’re currently scaling into luxury hospitality and corporate gifting, and working closely with major hotels, restaurants, and retail partners who want their guest experience to feel intentional, elevated, and unforgettable.
At its core, Ecolux Goods is about freedom, impact, and excellence – and building a world where women can own their power without compromising their values.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
For a long time, I believed I wasn’t worthy. Growing up in a high-control religious environment, separating from my family young, and later ending up in an abusive relationship – all of it reinforced this idea that I had to earn my value, or prove it, or perform for it. Worthiness felt like something other people decided for me.
It wasn’t until much later, the night before an awards show, that someone looked at me and said, “You are so worthy – you are here!” It was such a simple sentence, but it hit a part of me no one had ever spoken to before.
That moment didn’t fix everything, but it cracked something open. Since then, I’ve been rebuilding that belief from the ground up – learning, slowly and deliberately, that worthiness isn’t conditional. It’s inherent. And it’s mine. And yours…
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You’re not as alone as you feel – and nothing about you is broken. The strength you’re fighting for now becomes the foundation you’ll stand on later. Always trust yourself and walk in that truth. You’ll build a life that feels like yours.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
That I can rely on and trust myself.
That my intuition is never wrong.
And that I’m allowed to build a life that feels good to me, even if no one else understands it.
Those beliefs have carried me out of environments that were harmful, through rebuilding my life from zero, and into the businesses and relationships I have now.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
That freedom is an inside job.
Most people think it comes from circumstances – money, approval, the right relationship, the right timing.
But after leaving a controlled environment, rebuilding my life without a safety net, and walking away from situations that tried to shrink me, I learned that freedom starts with one decision: I choose myself.
Once you understand that, you stop negotiating your worth, your intuition, and your path.
You stop asking for permission. And you build a life that’s aligned with who you are, not who anyone else needs you to be.
That’s a truth you usually have to live through to really understand.
