We recently had the chance to connect with Monica Salamanca and have shared our conversation below.
Monica , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
I think one of the biggest misunderstandings about what I do is that people assume I’m just here to hand out workouts or tell them how to eat. In reality, my job goes much deeper than that. My role is to guide clients in connecting with their deeper values, building awareness around what they currently do, and creating consistency with habits that feel sustainable & supportive.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’ve been a Certified Personal Trainer for over eight years and my practice has evolved quite a bit. I’m now a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Certified Nutrition Coach (PN1), and Certified Pregnancy & Postpartum Athleticism Coach (P&PA). I help people go beyond the ‘best’ workout regimen. I guide people through the mindset changes and behaviors that support sustainable fitness. My approach is about helping clients connect with their deeper values, build awareness, and develop habits that fit their lifestyle without guilt, shame, or rigid rules. I think what makes my work unique is the focus on consistency and autonomy, empowering people to create lasting change while building a healthier relationship with food, their body, and themselves.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
For a long time, I measured my worth by how thin I was, how hard I could push myself, and how much control I had over food and exercise. That part of me has run its course. Now, I care more about how aligned my choices are with my values, how well I care for myself, and the consistency I maintain in showing up for my health.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
One of my biggest fears that has held me back is caring too much about what other people think. It can be paralyzing and leave me feeling stuck. I’m still learning how to quiet that voice, trust myself, and honor my own path instead of relying on external validation.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
A few important truths I believe — even if few agree — is that being ‘fit’ doesn’t have a certain look and health isn’t defined by a number on the scale or a specific shape.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am in nature or spending quality time with my family & my 2 beagles Rocco & Layla.
