Story & Lesson Highlights with Ryan Fitzpatrick of Encinitas

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Ryan Fitzpatrick. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Ryan, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
They say routine is the key to success. Recently I read the same routine is what makes the weeks and years feel faster and faster. So for better or worse, my morning routine is different almost every morning. I am fortunate enough to be a small business owner which brings me the fortune of being at the mercy of that schedule. Some days I am up early and out the door to meet my crew and still be on site. Some mornings I have a networking engagement or estimates. Other mornings I have the flexibility to go for a surf, workout, grab coffee with a love interest or call my mom back. But there is one thing that remains consistent; I make my bed.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a North County SD based entrepreneur with a background in business and a passion for building practical, people-first businesses. I grew up in an entrepreneurial family in Philadelphia where I got my degree from Temple University. I cut my teeth in startups before launching my own junk removal business with my brother Seamus, where customer service, reliability, and community impact is our focus. What sets us apart is our hands-on approach and a belief that even “unsexy” industries can be run with integrity, personality, and care. Today, I’m focused on growing our business, collaborating with local trades and real estate professionals, and finding ways to give back to our community we call home.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My dad taught me that if you make a commitment to something you see it though but my mom was the entrepreneur growing up. I saw her early mornings and heads down months though her busy season. But I also saw her shut it down early to hang out with friends or enjoy a beach day. She taught me the value of hard work and also the value of smart work along with the balance that brings with it. Busy work isn’t always a good thing!

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Be calm in the face of adversity – I believe life is 10% of what happens and 90% how you react to it.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
My brother, he’s the kind of guy that would do anything for his people. He’s always there to be a listening ear and just a good time. He could care less about any of the other fluff.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Working lol – probably contradictory to this article but if I only had 10 years, I’d probably travel and figure it out from there.
