We recently had the chance to connect with Sara Jankowsky and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sara, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, what’s been bringing me the most joy is planning my wedding with the love of my life. We’re going for a small and intimate vibe, which just feels really meaningful and cozy. It’s been such a fun and happy thing to focus on outside of work!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey, I’m Sara, a brow artist based in San Diego with over 20 years of experience. I love helping people bring out their best look by shaping brows that really fit their face and style. What makes my brand different is the focus on personalization and making every client feel comfortable and confident. It’s not just about beauty, it’s about boosting self-esteem and having fun in the process. Right now, I’m excited to keep growing my business and connecting with more amazing people in the community.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was someone who loved making others feel beautiful…ever since I was a kid, I enjoyed doing my friends’ hair, makeup, and nails. But I thought those things were just hobbies, not a real career path. For a time, I followed the more traditional route, working a 9-5 in advertising because I believed success meant working in a corporate environment. It wasn’t until a childhood friend encouraged me to consider turning my passion into a profession that I realized I could actually build a career doing what I love. Now, I get to wake up every day and do something I’m truly passionate about…helping people feel confident and beautiful.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be to take more chances and not let anxiety take over your life. I know how overwhelming those feelings can be, making you doubt yourself and hold back from opportunities. But you need to remember that you are beautiful inside and out. You are a good person with so much kindness to offer the world. The negative chatter in your head is not the truth… it’s just fear trying to protect you from stepping outside your comfort zone. Don’t listen to it. Instead, trust yourself more, believe in your abilities, and be brave enough to take risks. Every chance you take is a chance to grow, learn, and become the amazing person you were always meant to be. You are worthy of happiness, success, and love and never forget that.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely! I am born and raised in New York City, and growing up there taught me to speak my mind and always be myself. I’m not the type of person who can put on a facade. The public version of me is the real me. I always say it how it is. You can even ask my fiancé; sometimes my truth can be a little blunt, but he respects it because he knows it’s genuine. Being authentic is really important to me in every part of my life.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I had just 10 years left, the first thing I’d stop doing is couch potato-ing and binge-watching TV shows. Life’s too short to spend it all on the couch! I’d get out there, travel to every country I can, and try out tons of new hobbies. I want to soak up everything life has to offer… adventures, new cultures, and fun experiences. Honestly, answering this question just reminds me that I should probably be doing all of this stuff now instead of waiting around!
