We recently had the chance to connect with Vynce Pham and have shared our conversation below.
Vynce, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day consists of walking and feeding my dog, Katy. After that, I’m having breakfast while checking my email inbox. And then it’s a shower to get ready for the day be it conference calls, running errands or heading to the gym.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Vynce Pham. I am the owner and DJ for Music Phreek DJ and Lighting Services. We are a company that not only offers DJ Services, but a plethora of other services pertaining to weddings, corporate events and functions. In addition to music, we also offer lighting, draping, photo booths, photography, videography, customized gobos, cold sparklers, low-lying fog machines and geysers.
I started this company more than two decades ago because of my love for music and the dance culture. I didn’t think I would end up so attached to the wedding industry specifically, but I found I had a good knack for entertaining the audience and making sure couples and companies have the best entertainment experience possible.
It’s indeed a tough industry to be in at times, but it’s so worthwhile when you help to create a couple’s or company’s event with lasting memories.
I have an amazing team who are all dedicated to the same purpose, which is ensuring that our services and products are second to none.
We are working on expanding our exposure to multiple markets since we have quite a few services we offer for any occasion or event we are a part of.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
This hands down, has to be my mother. She worked numerous jobs supporting four kids as a single mom. She never gave in to any feeling of giving up, but rather persevered and helped all of us children to follow our dreams and do the best we could to succeed.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be that staying true to your morals and what you stand for is more than admirable considering social stigma.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Every holiday season between November and December, I make it a point to carve out time to put up Christmas lights and use the funds to donate to the rescue I adopted my dog from. Most of the customers have been with me for many years and continue to support me and the rescue.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I were to retire tomorrow, I would think that customers would mostly miss my customer service and how much I put into making sure my events are always fun and entertaining.
