Tamra Leigh Earlywine shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Tamra Leigh, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Well, since you asked (ha ha)… I’ll plug my first book I just published— Zenatude: ZenTen. Make Your Time Count with a Zen Attitude. It’s been incredibly exciting to see another idea come to life, this time on pages I can actually hold.
Zenatude® is my other brand — something I work on outside of growing Wuh Duh Fuh®. Its mission is to spread more understanding, acceptance, and kindness — to simply bring more joy into the world. That “joy” part definitely overlaps with the Wuh Duh Fuh vibe.
The book blends mindfulness with motivation to help people slow down, tune in, and live with more purpose and positivity. It’s meant to be your daily dose of calm — or your go-to pick-me-up when things don’t go as planned. And for every entrepreneur, we both know… those days can happen a lot.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m the founder of Wuh Duh Fuh® — a lifestyle brand with hats, clothing, and accessories that basically say it without saying it.
The idea first came to life back in 2005, but I kept it on the down low until I could make it official.
The trademark process was no joke — the USPTO didn’t exactly love that it played off the real phrase “What The F***,” so it got rejected. When Wuh Duh Fuh was finally approved in March 2024, that moment was surreal. It was a reminder that persistence really does pay off.
I design for the fearless, the curious, and the statement-makers — the ones who aren’t afraid to stir things up a little. My customers don’t blend in; they wear their attitude proudly, whether it’s on their head or across their chest.
We’ve all had those Wuh Duh Fuh moments — the awkward, unexpected, or just plain wild ones. This brand is about embracing those moments, breaking the tension, and sparking a laugh. It’s bold, unfiltered, and unapologetically real — just like the people who wear it.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
If you don’t mind, I’d like to change that to “empowerful.” The word “powerful” can sometimes feel a little unhealthy to me — empowerful just fits better.
There’s a moment from March 1993 that stands out like it was yesterday. I had traveled alone to Seoul, South Korea, with the promise of a teaching job and a room to rent from another teacher. But when I arrived, things quickly went downhill. After waiting ten hours at Kimpo International Airport, it finally hit me — my ride wasn’t coming. And for anyone who wasn’t around back then (laughs), we didn’t have cell phones.
Long story short, there was no job, no apartment, and no one waiting for me on the other side of the world. I had zero contacts and had to figure it out on my own.
Fast forward a week later, and there I was — in a taxi headed to LJ Corporation (formerly Lucky Goldstar) for my first real English teaching job. The company was based in the Twin Towers, two of the largest buildings in Korea, buzzing with thousands of business professionals.
After everything that week threw at me — the fear, the confusion, the unknown — landing that job felt like a major victory. That’s when I first felt empowerful… realizing that even when everything falls apart, I can still find a way through.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
A Fuh’in lot. 😃
I’ve experienced my fair share of suffering, and I’ll admit — some of it was brought on by my own choices. Pain has a way of forcing you to look inward, and that’s exactly what I did. I asked myself the hard questions: How did I get here? What needs to change so I don’t repeat this? Where do I want my life to be tomorrow, next month, next year?
Instead of asking “Why is this happening to me?” I started asking “What is this trying to teach me?” I treated every challenge as a lesson — the situation became my teacher, and I became the student. It’s easier said than done, but that shift in mindset always pointed me in the right direction.
Success, on the other hand, moves fast. It’s euphoric — and when everything’s going right, it’s easy to stop reflecting. That’s when the deeper lessons can slip by unnoticed.
As an entrepreneur, there’s still plenty of stress and uncertainty, but knowing that my mission to spread more joy in this world is actually working — that keeps me on a high.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Growing this business. I see firsthand the positive impact Wuh Duh Fuh® has on people every time I’m out at a festival, market, or pop-up. Watching someone read my banner, pause, and then burst into laughter when it clicks — that moment never gets old. It reminds me why I started this in the first place.
My goal now is to take that same energy beyond Southern California, where I’ve been focused on building the brand. I know it’s a marathon, not a sprint — but I’m in it for the long run, spreading a little humor and a lot of joy wherever it lands.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That she led with kindness, didn’t fake it, and always found a way to lift people up — sometimes with laughter, sometimes with truth. She inspired me to live more boldly, be more myself, and not give a Wuh Duh Fuh about what anyone else thought.
