Xavier Barrett shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Xavier, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
This is a great question. So many times in my life I’ve been faced with a situation where impatience cost me more in the long run and through experience I’ve learned the importance of delayed gratification. It’s like the example of someone taking 1 millions dollars over doubling a penny everyday for 30 days. Taking a million dollars straight up seems like the perfect option at first but when you think about it and do the math waiting the 30 days gets you more money
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Xavier Barrett and I’m a Gym owner (RevBody) and a Realtor and my mission is to help people improve their health and build wealth. I’m of African-American and Chilean heritage. Very in touch with my family roots and Spanish was my first language. I’m working on building the RevBody brand and helping as many people buy or sell real estate.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think trust is key. You can lose it but you can also earn it. That’s the beauty in the struggle with situations like that because it’s never too late to do the right thing
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Multiple times. I remember specifically studying for my real estate exam for the second time after failing it previously and while I was studying late at night for it I felt like I was retaining information even less and felt like I was going to fail it again. I basically gave up and fell asleep and wasn’t going to drive 45 minutes and take the test just to fail but when I woke up I just forced myself to try again and I ended up passing!
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I love this question. I think in this day and age with social media it’s very easy to get lost in what’s fake and what’s reality. People only post what they want people to say and it’s most likely only the good things going on in their life. I pride myself in being authentic and being someone who is the face of a brand I think that’s what has allowed me to build so many relationships and connections with people because I don’t fake the grind and try to humble myself and stay grounded
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
How I tried to uplift and help everyone around me. That I wasn’t responsible for some of the generational trauma that affected my life but I was responsible for how I was able to face and overcome them
