Art & Life with Mike and Jenn Edwards

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike and Jenn Edwards.

Mike and Jenn, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I am a portrait and wedding photographer based out of sunny Southern California.

Together with my wife, Jenn, who also shares in this passion, we specialize in creating memories. Whether candid or posed, our goal is to bring a level of service that is unmatched as well as an experience that will never be forgotten.

We create an environment that is relaxing for your ultimate experience. Our style is contemporary and stylish all the while capturing the natural, organic moments that tell your story.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Simply put…. we love photography. It is our passion. We hope it is yours too. With that said, if photography is not of the utmost importance to you on your special day, be it a wedding or a simple portrait shoot, we probably aren’t the photographers for you. Just being honest!

However, if photography is something that you cherish because you realize that these are the memories that will last forever, we DEFINITELY are the photographers for you. We LOVE taking photos and creating a fabulous experience for our clients.

It’s just that…. an experience. We enjoy getting to know our clients, walking through this season of life alongside them, making sure they have everything they need and even talking a bride off the ledge if needed! Anytime we are photographing our clients, our goal is to make sure they are the best version of themselves. Confident, laughing and enjoying the moment.

Our art isn’t just in our photos, it’s in the experience. Experience the difference with us!

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Don’t compromise your passion or convictions. We weren’t passionate about photographing families but thought we needed to because it would help our business grow. But it didn’t and we became frustrated. So we just made a decision that we weren’t going to photograph what we weren’t passionate about. And it freed us up to focus on what we do love….. weddings. We also enjoy doing professional headshots we decided that would be it. Everything else was a no with a recommendation to another photographer that could say yes.

And we don’t recommend going into debt to start a business. That was the path we chose anyway. While it took some time for us to get here, we don’t owe anyone anything. We are now free to use our income the way we choose to rather than it telling us what to do.

How did we do that? We don’t have a bunch of lenses that we don’t need along with a bunch of tools that are unnecessary. We knew we could provide a great product and even more, an experience, that would not be forgotten with just a few key ingredients.

Stay true to what you are passionate about and don’t let it be about the money. That will follow!

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
We don’t have a studio or our work displayed at a storefront. However, Friar Tux just featured us in a blog, see the link.

In addition, we’ve had several companies feature our work on flyers, websites, walls of their businesses and more. These things are ever evolving.
