Check out Andrea Luna Reece’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Luna Reece.

Andrea, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Honestly, it has been a very organic and natural pursuit. I have always thought I would be a painter, but everything in me kept pulling me towards clay. When I entered into college, I pursued drawing and painting but after taking a ceramic class I knew right away that clay would be my major. I graduated from CSULB in 1998 with a BFA in ceramics, but I took a completely different path after college and got a job as a publicist at an indie punk label. I did that for about six years but during this time I was too busy to really sit down and create anything, and I knew something was missing and the only way I was going to fill that creative empty space inside was to simply make the time to start creating again and the moment I did I knew I was in the right place. I left my job at the label and did just that! It felt like I was away for a really long time and had finally come home!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I design and sculpt handmade ceramic art & objects for the home and garden. The pieces become a canvas for my love of painting and color. Many of the pieces and images are rooted in my love for vintage and modern ceramics-which I am continuously exploring.

Ceramic forms are built by hand; wheel thrown or slip cast and all images are painted by hand. Other materials used include hemp rope for hanging planters and wall plaques.

My mixed media paintings are created using pretty much whatever I have available. Canvas, dye, spray paint, inks, paint, paper, charcoal and more all make their way into the paintings.

I want people to have a piece that brings them joy so I design and execute pieces that are modern, fresh and can add life to a space. I want my paintings to convey hope and light in the darkness and vulnerability of life.

My desire is to create pieces to bring beauty, peace, and joy into the home or workplace.

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
Artists have always had and always will have an opportunity to bring something out of nothing. To create something beautiful, something that puts a smile on someone’s face, something to bring peace to the soul in moments of darkness, this is the role the artist gets to play. Regardless of what is going on around us, all artists can influence the world around them through the love of what they do and share with those around them.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work is carried in over 20 stores and online. Locally, it is available at Roam in Oceanside and MRH Interiors in San Diego. You can also find me popping up in stores and at local maker markets.
