Check Out Fontayne Sisson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fontayne Sisson.

Hi Fontayne, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi I’m Fontayne Sisson, founder of Studio Sisson. I was born and raised in Sacramento, California and I’ve been living in San Diego since 2011. Ever since I was little, I’ve always been interested in art. Growing up, I took drawing, painting, and photography classes, basically whatever I could get involved with. I graduated from SDSU in 2014 with a B.A. in Graphic Design, and since then have worked various design jobs in San Diego. I’ve always dreamed of going out on my own, and this year I decided to take a leap of faith by starting Studio Sisson! When I’m not behind the computer, you can find me either at the beach, out traveling with my fiance, or binge watching Netflix on the couch with my two cats.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building my business has definitely had its ups and downs. At first, there was a bit of self-doubt. Debating if I would succeed and if I made the right choice to start something on my own. I’ve also never started a business, so I had to teach myself everything. With so much information available online, I would spend most of my time just reading and soaking in as much as I could. As I would complete milestones and slowly keep inching forward, I would celebrate the small wins, and it was reassuring that I could do it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a graphic designer and I specialize in logo design and branding. I love helping businesses develop their visual aesthetic and bring their vision to life! I am naturally drawn towards simplicity and am a firm believer that less is more, so this is incorporated into my art. If I had to sum up my style in one word, it would definitely be minimal. As far as my biggest accomplishment, I designed the logo for Urban Street Angels, a local Non-profit here in San Diego. They help the homeless youth by providing job training, housing, and other opportunities to help them get back on their feet. They do amazing work, and I felt honored to work with them. I think what sets me apart from others is that I like to keep everything simple, not just in my creative style but how I conduct business. I’ve been told I am a very easy-going person and that reflects in everything I do.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The thing that matters most to me is that the people around me are happy… both in my personal life and in business. With my clients, I want them to enjoy their time with me and the creative journey we take together. I want them to feel that they are involved in every step of the way and be excited about the end product!
