Today we’d like to introduce you to Gianna Mauceri.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Gianna Mauceri. I am originally from Sydney, Australia and have been living in San Diego since 2010. In 2016, I was involved in a serious car accident that changed my life forever and has helped me to live my life each day with so much more gratitude and compassion for myself, others and the world around me. It is my intention to share my story with you to help anyone who has ever experienced any kind of pain or trauma, know that healing is possible on all levels and that we each have our own innate ability to heal from within, both our bodies and our hearts.
I was a busy hairstylist for 18 years working in a salon in north San Diego at the time of the accident. I was taking my second yoga teacher training in Ocean Beach and also managing a healing arts school in Encinitas at the time. I was transitioning my career from hairstylist, to yoga teacher and the healing arts.
On November 4th 2016, I was on my way home from yoga teacher training, heading north on the 5 freeway. It was around balboa ave, not long into my journey when I noticed some headlights coming towards me at full speed. The next thing I remember is waking up on the 5 freeway with my car parked horizontally across the four lanes of the freeway, blocking the whole freeway. My car was a complete wreck on the inside, with the dashboard sitting on my lap unable to move my legs while I noticed the front of my car was on fire. As I tried to escape, I realized I was stuck in the car. Luckily there were already many professional aid surrounding my car trying to get me out. The fire team hadn’t arrived yet, but thankfully a man who happened to be stopped in the traffic behind my car had a fire extinguisher in his truck and was able to put the fire out on my car enough before the fire team arrived. I never knew who he was, but I believe he saved my life.
After an hour, I was finally extracted from my car after they had to cut the roof off my car to get me out. I remember thinking “Am I going to die?.” And I prayed to my Angels to save my life. Finally I was taken to Scripps trauma emergency in La Jolla and placed in a weeks long induced coma while they performed multiple surgeries on me. When I woke up in the ICU, my family was there from Australia by my side and the doctors explained my injuries. I had an L4 spine compression fracture, fractured right tibia/fibula, fractured right ulnar/radius, fractured all the tiny bones in my right foot, punctured my colon and woke up with damaged vocal chords.
My recovery was not easy, but because I had been studying these powerful healing practices prior, like yoga, meditation and energy healing, I was able to use these tools to help me recover in a much more positive way, offering much more gratitude and self-love to my body, heart and mind. I believe it was these practices that helped me heal from deep trauma.
I have now dedicated my life to helping others and I want to share my story of healing to anyone who has ever been through any kind of pain or trauma whether it be childhood trauma, car accident trauma, emotional or mental trauma because I believe that healing is possible on all of these levels and there is support out there! You don’t have to go through it alone.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t all been smooth sailing. Since the accident, not only have I been helping others through healing, I have had to do my own healing. Physically it took me about a full year of serious rehabilitation before I could honestly say I was able to walk or move my body in a way that felt safe again.
I had about 5 screws in my foot holding it together and couldn’t put any weight on it at all until they were removed after three months. I have a permanent titanium metal rod holding my tibia/fibula together on my right leg and 2 titanium metal rods and screws holding my ulnar/radius together in my right arm. I was in a wheelchair for about 6 months and learned to walk again using a walker. It was a complete life changing and humbling experience to k know that our bodies can heal from something so challenging. My body, even though healed in my bones, still experiences a lot of pain. I use my tools breathing, meditation and yoga to work through it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
When people ask me what I do in my healing practice, my answer is usually is “I’m helping one heart heal at a time!” The work I do is very specialized and I meet my students where ever they are at in their process and we go from there.
I offer one-on-one private sessions including; Trauma therapy. helping people who have experienced any kind of trauma, specifically during their childhood or trauma from injuries/accidents. As well as mentoring people by allowing them to be heard and speak safely about their trauma, I also offer different healing modalities like Reiki energy healing, sound healing and work with aromatherapy and crystals to help calm and soothing people as they receive deep healing.
My practice is in ocean beach for one on one private sessions, and I also mentor students all around the country through private phone sessions. Every day I wake up and I ask my Angels to please help me to help at least one heart feel a little bit lighter, safer and more loved today and I give gratitude for my healing so that I can be here to help others. I also just published my first book, ‘Soul of a Spirit Warrior- A True Story of Healing, Survival and Resilience’, which is about the process of healing and is an expansion on my journey and what it took for me to be able to get through it.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always interested in helping people. I was very sensitive and could intuitively feel when people were going through something. I couldn’t help but want to help in any way that I could. From a young age I believed that there were Angels with me protecting me and others. After the accident happened, I trusted even more that there was a beautiful divine power around all of us and that we all have Angels guiding our way. All we have to do is listen and trust our own intuition, the answers are always inside of us.
