Conversations with the Inspiring Evelyn Sell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evelyn Sell.

Evelyn, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2009, I took a leap of faith and decided I didn’t want to dream about being a wedding planner anymore and that I was going to make it happen. I woke up, signed up for a certificate training program, bought a business name, and convinced a friend of a friend to let me do her wedding for free. My first wedding was in 2010, and by 2013, I was a full-time planner and doing thirty events a year. It’s been all about building a network and relationships with vendors and continuing my education in order to stay current on trends and ideas.

Has it been a smooth road?
In the first few years of my business, it really did go smooth. I felt God opened every door for me and lead me on the right path. Yes, there were growing pains and things I had to learn and adjust in my business but I really felt this was my calling. It wasn’t until 2017 that my business hit its hardest year. I had my second daughter and lost my mom all within three weeks of each other. I was grieving while trying to care for a difficult baby and run a business. I even had a wedding four days after my mom passed and with a three week old BUT I had committed to it and was happy to be there. Those are the things people don’t understand while having your own business, you can not just check out. I couldn’t take leave, I had peoples special wedding days in my hands and that was important to me. Needless to say, I struggled that year booking clients, finding my groove, and feeling confident in myself. I turned a corner in 2018, changed my mindset and changed my brand. I found my voice again, my confidence and I believe potential clients could see that. I started booking and getting my ideal clients, business has never been better.

My advice for young women is to be confident in your abilities and find your own path. Give your clients something unique that only you can give. Also, give yourself grace and time to grow.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Evelyn Francesca Events story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in planning and designing weddings for couples in San Diego, Temecula, and Orange County. I like to create unique and personalized experiences for the couple and their guests. My style tends to be romantic and elegant, yet personal for each couple. I’m most proud of my design aesthetic and my ability to connect with my couples on a personal level in order to make the planning experience stress-free and enjoyable, just as the wedding day should be.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
While growing up my parents were extremely supportive and always encouraged my creative side from an early age. I was watching design shows, constantly redecorating my room, and doing anything crafty. Design was always a part of my life, so it was a natural progression to pursue a career involving arts.
