Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikey Mora.
Mikey, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started getting into photography in 2019 when my wife and I were expecting our first child and we had plans to go on our baby moon to Hawaii. Prior to our trip, I randomly decided to purchase a camera that my friend was selling to use on our trip and basically taught myself how to navigate the camera with some tips from YouTube. I wanted to be able to capture such special moments of my wife while she was pregnant on our trip and that’s exactly what I did. Till this day, I still look back and re-live those moments. I wanted to be able to offer this feeling and share this with other people whether it’s with their significant other or families and that is when I started taking photography more serious. That following year, I offered my friends free sessions constantly just so I can get the hang of it and become more comfortable when the time came to clients inquiring. I remember my first paid gig like it was yesterday. I was hired for some portraits downtown San Diego and I was so excited yet nervous at the same time that I almost backed out. I told myself if this is what I wanted to do, I needed to take a leap of faith and go for it. Once our session started, it was a smooth ride from there and my confidence level boosted and motivated me to put myself out there even more. It took a lot of patience, trial and error when it came to the editing process and it definitely takes time to find your style. I love being able to network and connect with others in the same field and just vibe off of each other’s energy. Having other friends that do what I love inspires me to continue to hustle and continue to do what it is that makes me happy.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Getting started in this business was definitely not a soothing sail. There were a lot of bumps in the road leading to where I am today. Starting out, I had put so much time and effort into wanting to perfect my work. So, being the beginner that I was and asking people to practice on all the time, I felt like the hill was too high and never ending and always had that thought in the back of my head if this was the right business/hobby for me.

I am a photographer and I specialize in portraits, couples, families and some product content. I am most proud of the growth since I started. Each year, my clientele grows and I am super thankful for the continued support from everyone around me.
What does success mean to you?
Setting goals and putting your best work into achieving them. Giving yourself value and being able to find your “why” or your purpose.
