Today we’d like to introduce you to Nedra Abramson.
Nedra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in the Midwest and began my adult working life in Corporate America, primarily in sales and marketing… After many years of serving large broadcast organizations, such as ABC and CBS, in the areas of Business Development and Promotions, I returned my life’s focus to my love of animals.
I have been working closely with animals for the past 15 years. I started working with animals by volunteering at Much Love Animal Rescue in Los Angeles. Through Much Love, I became a failed foster twice and had two amazing formerly feral cats, named Monster and Siddhi. It was because of these two cats that I really started paying attention to the effects their emotions had on their health and well-being. Stress causes a lot of health issues in animals, especially rescues. So I learned that it is very important to make sure they are happy, relaxed and fed a very healthy diet to boost their immune system. Through this process I really learned a lot about nutrition for domestic animals and am a true believer in raw foods or at least human grade equivalent foods with no by-products.
Siddhi had a hernia when she was born that was operated on, but the initial operation didn’t hold. After her second surgery, she was not doing well and Western Medicine was not helping, so I found a holistic vet, Dr. Monica Laflin, who alleviated most of her symptoms after one treatment. You could tell immediately that Siddhi was so much happier and finally pain free. I asked Dr. Monica what she did to help Siddhi so quickly and assuredly. The doctor informed me that she had used a combination of chiropractic, acupuncture, homeopathy and Reiki. Having never heard of Reiki, I quickly bought a book on the subject and started reading. I was hooked.
Soon thereafter, I found Dr. Carol Wilson online and really liked her background so I took my first Reiki class in April of 2007. I have been practicing on people, pets and plants ever since. My current employment at an animal center allows me to work with animals on a daily basis. I became a Reiki Master/Teacher in January of 2008 and have been practicing professionally since. I have also added other modalities Acupressure and Massage and am nationally certified in both. In addition I added Equine Acupressure to the mix as horses respond really well to energetics. Reiki really does work in conjunction with all of these modalities so this allows me to provide lots of options for my clients/. Traditional Chinese Medicine, Reiki and Massage will always be the primary method of treatment, as these modalities have the intrinsic ability to work for all creatures and create the perfect balancing result for each moment.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When I started this Reiki and Acupressure were not as well known or recognized for pets as it is now. So definitely had to do a lot of explaining and demonstrating. People would always be amazed that you could do this for your pets. So I’ve noticed at shows and events I rarely get asked if this is something you can do for your pet, which tells me it is definitely becoming more accepted. Leaving a job that I had been at for 8 years to go out on my own was definitely a little scary and caused a few sleepless nights, it is still challenging getting new clients on a regular basis. As these modalities become more accepted I am hoping to start working with a few holistic vets to add to both of our practices.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Reiki for all Creatures story. Tell us more about the business.
We specialize in wellbeing of all creatures. We make house calls as most pets prefer to be in their own homes, or barns or stalls. For humans we have a Reiki studio that they can visit or we do house calls as well.
We provide Reiki for all creatures Acupressure for small animals and horses and Massage for small animals.
We also provide classes and suggestion on how to use essential oils for dogs’ horses and humans
We love empowering and educating pet parents so they have more tools to keep their pets balanced and happy and maintain or regain quality of life.
I am the one of the only practitioners in California who is nationally certified in Acupressure and Massage for Small Animals and horses.
In addition we lecture all over Southern California we have spoken to Rescue groups, Humane society’s, Search and Rescue organizations, Therapeutic Riding facilities, and groomers to give them some tips and points and massage techniques to keep pets fosters and working dogs and clients calm and balanced during stressful situations and also learning techniques for dogs to release the emotions or experiences they have been exposed too.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
That is an interesting question. I am of the belief that we all vibrate at a certain level and by raising your vibration you create your outcomes. Like attract likes so if you are vibrating at a higher level i.e. being positive and have a good outlook good things happen so I guess you kind of create your own luck.
