Meet Scott Silverman of Confidential Recovery/Your Crisis Coach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Silverman.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Scott. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and grew up here in San Diego. My family was in the retail clothing Business, based out of El Cajon.
I worked with my family until I was 30. At that time, my life was blowing up. I entered a treatment center that saved my life, along with my wife, Michelle who was very supportive in helping me make that happen. My new life started over in 1984. I am now 64. Married 36 years to Michelle with two awesome daughters, Jessica and Gracie.

Jessica lives here in San Diego, she is a family law attorney. Gracie, our youngest lives in Los Angeles and is in the Special Events industry. My wife, Michelle has worked in the Real Estate industry for 25 plus years.

I founded and ran a non-profit called Second Chance for 18 years. The mission was helping returning ex-offenders get housing and jobs. I left the agency 7 years ago.

Four years ago, I co-founded Confidential Recovery, which is an outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Center. We target working professionals and others who can’t or won’t leave their jobs but need the support on an outpatient basis to deal with their addictions.

I currently have 33 years of continuous recovery. The goal of Confidential Recovery was to help substance abusers and offer treatment and long-term support to help reduce recidivism.

I am a subject matter expert. I have been working hard every day on the opioid crisis and helping create systemic change in the world of treatment.

My passion is to help families get their loved ones into treatment. Your Crisis Coach is a component and a way I can help families and companies get their loved ones, co-workers and friends help and support.

This year, I am serving as President of the Honorary Deputy Sheriff’s Department. I am also on the Board of Seacrest Foundation.

I am involved with and part of the San Diego Prescription Drug Taskforce, as well as the Meth Taskforce. I’m also the co-founder of SDSOAP, which stands for San Diego Society of Addiction Professionals. My wife, Michelle and I love taking long walks along the beach. I enjoy cooking for the family. Both myself and my wife are native San Diegans and we love living in San Diego. I have written a book called: Tell me No, I Dare you! I am currently working on my second book.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every but a smooth road, as the black sheep of the family I had many obstacles to overcome growing up. I had ADHD as a child. I had an 8-second attention span, reading difficulties. I went to many schools for many reasons. At the age of 15, I was sent to a College Prep School in Tucson, AZ, for a year. It was rough.

Drugs and alcohol took their toll on me from age 15 until I was 30. Got sober November 13th, 1984. As a social entrepreneur, I wanted to always find ways to help others and attempt to make a living. A tough path to carve out.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Confidential Recovery/ Your Crisis Coach – what should we know?
We serve people who are looking for confidentiality, whether it is because of their profession or their preference. Clients receive confidential, long-term addiction treatment that supports a sustainable recovery.

Confidential Recovery is an outpatient program, allowing clients to continue their careers or jobs and enjoy living at home while receiving long-term therapy.

Lasting Support

One in seven Americans will develop a substance use disorder at some point in their lifetime. Most will not be successful at sobriety without ongoing support. Confidential Recovery believes the stigma of addiction and treatment must be removed to help clients along the road to recovery – it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

Individualized and Continued Treatment

MAT: We provide and support Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), a treatment that has been proven to increase the chances of recovery.

Underlying Addiction: CR’s treatment is mindful of the role that past traumas (PTSD), relationships and mood disorders have on an individual’s battle with addiction. We cater our treatment to help individuals garner interpersonal and emotional regulation skills conducive to effective, sustainable behavioral choices – actions in line with their values and goals – through evidence-based methods such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Seeking Safety, Mindfulness Meditation, and EMDR.

Continued Treatment: Confidential Recovery is a great option for continued treatment and support after discharge from a detox clinic or a residential addiction program. CR is also a perfect beginning for those clients who are “higher-functioning” and don’t wish to do residential treatment, are trying sober living, private therapy, working, or have parenting responsibilities.

What we do that we believe is our secret sauce is. One size does not fit all. We meet our client where they are at. We strongly encourage a long-term commitment to their recovery and to the support of the family as well.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I get up every morning with the passion, desire, and goal to help folks get access to help support and treatment and options and opportunities for change. Addiction is a disease just like diabetes. I am willing to do whatever it takes to help families. I promote hope and help everyone.
