Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Quesada.
Kristina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a 4th generation native of Tucson, Arizona, and I always found myself drawn to the West Coast. Every summer, we vacationed in Coronado, never thinking the island could one day become my home.
After graduating from the University of Arizona, I started working with a family business as a media broker, where I handled the acquisition and disposition of radio stations, television stations, and outdoor assets. Although I loved the media business, I knew deep down my entrepreneurial spirit wanted to move to the beach and build a business I was truly passionate about.
My family and I made the leap and moved to Coronado, CA. I started networking with friends in the area and was drawn to the residential real estate market. I immediately earned my license and partnered up with Dave, Mary, and Jenna at The Werth Group at Douglas Elliman. We have successfully grown to a team of six agents with two in-house personnel Within the firm, achieving over $500M in sales in the last eight years. The group was also recently recognized as a top-ten team across all Douglas Elliman Western Region offices.
My biggest accomplishments are my two incredible children. Ellis is eight years old, in 2nd grade, and Van is an energy filled 2-year-old. My daughter was born with Cystic Fibrosis, and I am highly involved with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. I am the Outreach Chair for the annual Chef Throwdown at the Hotel Del Coronado that benefits the foundation.
I am proud to call Coronado home and love to share this community with my family and friends.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When you start your own business, you are always faced with bumps in the road. The first struggle I was faced with was balancing work life with family time. As The Werth Group partnership began, I was actually around seven months pregnant with my second child while parenting my then 6-year-old daughter. Luckily, I have a very supportive husband who understood I needed to dedicate extra time to my business, as we ramped up. Since then, we have grown to be very successful. I now have the ability to separate work from family, and, in addition, found ways to include family in my business activities.
As a young woman in business with a growing family, I do not believe the word “balance” can apply. I believe the key to making it work is by having open communication lines with your spouse and children. In my case, I am extremely transparent with my husband on the needs and commitments of my business, so he is understanding when I explain I need a Wednesday evening for a listing appointment or a weekend to show properties to a new client. If I did not take to time to explain what my goals are and how I need to achieve them, then I would receive more push back on the other side and create strain in my relationship and in my business. Communication is key.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
As women in business, I believe the greatest opportunities are in entrepreneurship. Women are amazing at creating their own opportunities and executing on them. If you follow your passion and pair it with strong leadership skills, it is amazing what can come out of it. When I initially worked out of a corporate office straight out of college, I didn’t have a drive and I didn’t feel fulfilled. It took time for me to realize that I needed to find a role the let me use my leadership skills along with my passion for service. Growing a real estate team allowed me to fulfill both of these needs and the room for growth is endless.
