Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Fernandez.
Susan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Nearly forty years ago, I took my first Swedish and shiatsu massage course. I was in my last year of college, finishing my degree in Psychology. I remember “out of the blue” it was recommended to me to take this course, saying “You’d be good at it!” So, after finishing my degree, I went to work for a physical therapist. It was there that I discovered, I have a natural ability to see where there are areas of imbalance in a person (and now animals). This ability has woven a path, threading itself in different ways throughout my career. This ability keeps expanding, showing me more and more what I am capable of, making me excited about what is to come.
Then, I started taking classes in massage, where each opened avenues to a more progressive form of healing. As a snapshot, of my background, I tool soft and hard sciences, pre-med, dozens of study groups, lymphatic drainage, chiropractic massage, trauma resolution, cranial sacral energy work, anatomy/physiology, cellulite reduction which I created a program for, endless ortho-bionomy, animal healing, and decades of metaphysics. This leads me to today.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t a smooth road. I would say that male-chauvinism played a key role in the struggles I had. It contributed greatly to the need for deep personal growth work to change patterns and heal on many levels.
Please tell us about The Healing Expansion.
I offer the following modalities to promote and maintain well-being and two modalities for healing animals:
1) Ortho-bionomy- OB is painless clothes on bodywork. It is a gentle comfortable and very effective method to release aches, pains, injuries, often issues that have been present for years. No force of any kind is ever used; pain-free is an ortho-bionomy credo. It calls on the bodies own intelligence, so changes occur as a result of self-healing. I have found orthobionomy to be far more effective than deep-tissue massage or standard massage; thus, replacing them completely. The body learns and accrues changes such that people feel more aligned, balanced, relaxed, with more ease of movement and less pain, even out of pain.
2) Lymphatic drainage- This method is for digestive issues, edema, circulation, allergies, and an excellent adjunct when cleansing the colon/liver and more.
3) Spiritual/Metaphysical facilitation- This is for anyone, who wants to experience and learn more about their inner life. I use aroma therapy, crystals, color, music, and visualization
mediations.
4) Energetic-off-the-body healing- This can be done in person or can be done distantly. I start by preparing myself, so Universal healing energies come through me as a catalyst for them. Changes can happen on all levels; physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
5) Distant healing- It’s a palpable experience for most everyone. I remember finishing a session, leaving the room to wash my hands and when I returned, the client said, “When you left the room, I no longer could feel the energy, like a light switch being turned off.” Distant Healing for me is the most fascinating and mysterious work that I do. Distant Healing is liken to prayer in that you could be anywhere in the world, praying for anyone or any situation regardless of where they are. I’m finding Distant Healing works better than energy- off-the- body or in- person healing, because I am not concerned about my own spatial environment and can completely focus my attention with intention. Because of this reason, I do most of my animal healing from a distance. With this type of focus, I am amazed on how animals have begun to communicate with me through Distant Healing.
I remember one puppy, putting its right front paw on my thigh as I began the Distant Healing.
Basically, telling me…”This is what hurts.” I felt so honored at that moment, and look forward on what more is to come in communicating more with them.
The exception to working with animals at a distance are horses. Horses are magnificent to watch when having a healing. Their owner or caretaker are amazed; and, so am I. Horses demonstrate they are receiving healing energies by lip-smacking, yawning, blinking, muscle, twitching, showing their teeth smiling, and other ways that show their awe-struck receptivity. One of the beauties of this type of healing is I don’t startle or hurt the horse—and, both the owners and myself are happy about that, especially the horses.
What do I specialize in: Distant Healing for animals and people and Ortho-Bionomy
What am I known for: Results. I listen to my client’s desires for the session and always make sure to address them, so they feel better, so they feel cared for when we are done.
What am I most proud of? Being able to truly help others
What sets me apart? My sense of intuition. I know instinctively where areas of concern/imbalance are as I am working with a client. This enables me to flow the energies where they are needed. It’s important to note that in healing, as in everything in this world—-there are no guarantees.
What were you like growing up?
As a child, I was always on the move….”Outside was my paradise!” I was quite multi-faceted and found joy in many sports-like activities I participated in. I especially enjoyed swimming, bike riding, jumping on the trampoline, and horseback riding.
At about age five, I wanted to be an archaeologist, so I could dig up dinosaur bones and after wanted to be an architect. While I was energetic and loved to explore, I possessed an artistic and creative flare for things, and began sewing my own clothes. I also loved dancing and music. I was first taught piano, which remains my favorite instrument, by a next-door neighbor, who was like a loving parent to me.
Later, as a teenager, I was drawn to metaphysics and learning to meditate. My favorite subjects in school were biology, algebra, and creative writing and began writing poetry.
In regards to my personality traits: I was independent, had a sense of curiosity, eager to help, had a desire to learn… I exhibited kindness to others, loved to laugh, and possessed a wonderment for nature.
I had a fascination and saw such beauty in cherry trees— bearing fruit or blossoms was a special love of mine—and remains so today.
