Meet Heather Butler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Butler.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Heather. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
For nearly a decade, I worked in the advertising industry within corporate/agency environments. I cut my teeth as an Account Executive for the San Diego Union-Tribune, learning and growing so much in my time there, managing advertising campaigns and strategy for small to medium businesses in the San Diego area. I reached a point in my career where I was significantly excelling but finding myself drained and complacent. I had always dreamed of traveling the world but never felt comfortable walking away from the career I had built in order to do so.

In 2017 I decided that my life was flying by and I felt that, although successful in my career, I was wasting away in an office. I had been recently introduced to the concept of remote working and knew that was my answer. I wanted to pick up and leave but do so responsibly and with a source of income. This ultimately leads me to starting my own business so I could hand-select the type of businesses I worked with and manage my work remotely. I then incorporated my love of travel into the type of content I create for my clients, shooting their products in exotic locations and obtaining one-of-a-kind footage for commercial use. Today I work with amazing brands and business owners, helping them develop a cohesive and engaging brand identity and voice in the digital space through content and multi-platform audience outreach.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Building anything from the ground up takes quite a bit of work and there are always bumps along the way. Most recently, the pandemic drastically affected my businesses. Because I work with small-medium businesses, when the pandemic shut them down, it shut me down as well. Covid hit and everything stopped. With regulations and changes becoming the new normal, things are picking back up, and actually, quite a few businesses have shifted to a more digital format, which in turn requires more digital marketing. I’ve found that the hurdle of coronavirus has actually created a potential for more business for me.

Generally speaking, there is a major learning curve in operating on your own. Learning your bandwidth and capabilities, setting boundaries, learning to effectively manage expectations, and having flexible communication skills to personalize collaborations with a variety of clients and their individual needs is vital.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.

My services help businesses and brands develop and master their messaging and voice in the digital space. Through cohesive and strategic, action-driving, and engaging content, we are able to accurately target their ideal audiences, increase social footprint, optimize brand recognition, and become the active authority in their industry.

My greatest strength and what I am known for is my hands-on approach. I am down in the trenches, getting my hands dirty right alongside my clients. I work closely with each brand to ensure their goals and opinions are heard and processed. I provide a more personalized experience for my clients. I am just a phone call away, quick to act and always three steps ahead.

What were you like growing up?
I was always an over-achiever. My mom loves to tell people that she would have to tell me to stop doing my homework and go to bed or I would stay up all night perfecting it. Even from a young age, I was constantly thinking about the future and how every action, every project, every homework assignment would ultimately lead to a better grade, goals achieved, and a better future.

I still like to work with this mentality. That every piece of content, every email campaign, every call-to-action, no matter how small, works in tandem towards the overall goal of the campaign and brand identity.
