Meet Cody Barbo of Trust & Will

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Barbo.

Cody is an entrepreneur and two-time founder from San Diego, CA. Cody currently serves as Founder of Trust & Will, a simple, modern and secure way to set up your trust and will online. He also served as CEO at his last company, Industry, a ‘LinkedIn’ for the service and hospitality industry, he took the company from idea to millions of dollars raised to build out their platform, team, and more. Cody is also the former CEO of Associated Students, a $26M non-profit in San Diego. Cody also serves on the San Diego State University Alumni Board of Advisors.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges any entrepreneur will face in dealing with investors (especially in the early days) is the ‘no’ and ‘this will never work’ line… It happened to Facebook, Uber, AirBnb, and yes, my last company Industry, and even Trust & Will. I am a big believer that a lot of those initial objections will help you build a thicker skin and continue to persevere. You learn early on to keep pushing forward. We leveraged that momentum around our product, marketing, and growth. It allowed Industry to go from self-funded, to $200k in angel funding, to $2.3M in VC. And now, with Trust & Will, it’s another uphill battle. I am proud of the investors we have so far, and can’t wait to show those who said ‘no’ what they’re missing out on.

Please tell us about Trust & Will.
Trust & Will is the easiest way to digitally create, edit, store, and share your trust and will. We are modernizing the $170B estate planning market, including intelligent automation for a modern digital consumer. Customers answer a few questions using relevant language, and we do the rest to ensure their loved ones and property are protected.

Our platform is built and designed for over 90M+ US adults who acknowledge they need a will but haven’t gotten around to creating one yet. Our modern solution is private, comfortable, intelligent, and web-based to help individuals and couples protect their physical assets, digital assets, and health directives.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
There are too many I’d like to mention, but I always enjoyed going up to Mammoth during the winter. I think some of my happiest days have been powder days on the mountain. Floating on that powder, hauling ass down cornice bowl, or the backside is unbeatable.
