Rising Stars: Meet Heather Rieder

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Rieder.

Hi Heather, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Art has always been a big part of my life. I’ve been painting and drawing since I was very young, and I always knew I wanted to work in a creative field. I come from a creative family; my dad was a graphic artist and a sign painter.

I took a bit of a detour before I finally went to college to study Fine Arts and then eventually pivoted to Graphic Design. While in college, I started my career as an intern at a sports brand in Portland, OR, and then moved to San Diego not long after I graduated. I worked in-house for a local brand and now I work full-time as a Senior Designer at a creative marketing agency.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a long road with many detours, but I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and everything I’ve learned along the way. I started college later in life and I didn’t graduate with my degree until I was in my 30s. I’m fortunate to have had a lot of support from teachers and mentors and the perseverance to keep going despite the challenges.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a full-time senior designer and visual artist. I work alongside an amazing team with clients in the beauty and wellness industry. I specialize in web design and UX/UI, and I also do design for packaging and marketing materials for print. In addition, I paint and illustrate as well. My artwork is inspired by nature, symbolism, and dreams. I like to explore different mediums, but I work a lot in gouache, acrylic, oil pastel, and collage.

I love being able to draw from different disciplines. There are so many ways in which my artwork informs and inspires my design work and vice versa. The art and design landscape is constantly evolving and I’m always looking for ways I can challenge myself and grow in my work.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
You can connect with me through my website, Instagram, or email. I’d love to collaborate!
