Hidden Gems: Meet Brittney Klasic of Klasic Dressage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Klasic.

Brittney Klasic

Hi Brittney, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always felt a connection with animals- and always loved horses. At 9 years old, I was enrolled in a horse summer camp and caught the horse bug immediately. I started Dressage from the very beginning and was your typical barn rat- spending countless hours after school and during the summers at the barn, riding every horse available, assisted my trainer in any way, took jumping lessons, and helped train cutting horses. On my own horse, I had the opportunity to show in Arizona, California, and Colorado. Ride under some of the top clinicians and won team gold at NAJYRC in 2008. The opportunity was incredible to compete with all the top juniors in the US in a big arena. I moved to California in 2008 and became a working student at Arroyo Del Mar under Shannon and Steffen Peters- learning every detail of caring for top-level horses. After years of grooming for some of the best riders, I faced reality and finished college, receiving my bachelor’s degree in chemistry. As I started working as a pharmacy tech at Scripps and catch riding as many horses as I could, I knew that I needed to try to follow my passion of being a Dressage trainer. In 2022, I officially started my business, Klasic Dressage.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting any business, there are a lot of ups and downs. I’ve made mistakes but learned and grew from them. One of the major struggles is keeping a consistent number of clientele- either the client moves or takes the horse out of training due to financial restraints. Also, finding a way to differentiate yourself from the other trainers in the area- having a certain niche. I also really want to see my students achieve their goals but have to remember that I also have dreams- so to make sure I find a balance between my students’ goals and my own

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Klasic Dressage?
I am a Dressage trainer based at Rancho Cielo Equestrian Center. As a rider, I love working with all different breeds of horses and enjoy the process of developing young horses to FEI. I emphasize on classical dressage, following the pyramid of training- having a relaxed and happy horse a top priority. As an instructor, I enjoy being a part of a rider’s journey with their horse going up the levels- I aim to teach correct positioning and the hows and whys of particular movements and exercises. All horses and riders in my program enjoy a variety of cross-training, such as cavalettis and trail riding.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Haha- there’s not much; I’m pretty transparent and an open book!
