Today we’d like to introduce you to Darryl Anunciado.
Hi Darryl, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Twelve years ago, I was simply looking for a new hobby. I asked my wife if we could get a piano so I could learn to play, but she said no, and suggested I find something else. So I went with remote control airplanes instead, which she happily agreed to—it was a lot cheaper than a piano! With my new RC airplane in hand, an idea struck me: what if I mounted a GoPro on it? I did, but my early attempts were shaky. YouTube viewers noticed and suggested I improve the camera mounting.
Determined to solve the problem, I began designing a better aircraft, one that could stabilize the GoPro and capture crystal-clear footage. Little did I know, this side project would lead to something revolutionary—the birth of what we now call drones.
As I posted more videos on YouTube and Facebook, the feedback grew. Soon, I was perfecting my design, and the quality of my footage caught people’s attention. About a year in, I had people asking to buy my prototypes! My first customers were true pioneers: a university archeology professor wanting to map dig sites, a police officer looking to improve search and rescue operations, and a filmmaker in Mexico City. These early adopters pushed me to take this hobby further.
Fast forward to today, Action Drone Inc. works with some of the world’s biggest organizations—Boeing, IBM, Siemens, the US Air Force, US Navy, and many more. We’ve gone from hobbyists to developing cutting-edge drones for complex missions around the globe. Our drones now help protect military personnel, assist in life-saving operations, and serve industries worldwide. And to think, it all started with a simple request for a hobby.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it’s definitely not been a smooth road. The journey has been filled with ups and downs. The drone industry is still in its infancy, and there are no clear policies or guidelines in place for how to fully integrate drones into the mainstream. Many companies and government agencies that express interest in creating drone divisions simply aren’t operationally ready yet. These are challenges we’ve had to tackle head-on in order to help grow the market.
We’ve seen both success and failure in our projects. Unfortunately, every failed project drains time and money—resources that are tough to recover in such a young industry. But we’re in an industry where we’ve had to build everything from the ground up, and that requires a huge amount of patience and perseverance.
A lot of drone companies haven’t survived because the market is growing at a slow pace. To stay afloat, we’ve had to come up with innovative ways to sustain ourselves until the world catches up to the potential of drones. It’s a long game, but we believe the future is bright for this technology.
As you know, we’re big fans of Action Drone Inc. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Action Drone Inc. specializes in designing, developing, and deploying advanced drone solutions for a variety of industries. Their primary focus is on creating drones for challenging and unique missions, including industrial inspections, infrastructure monitoring, and defense-related operations. They also offer training services to help companies and government entities integrate drone technology into their operations.
The company works with global organizations, including Boeing, IBM, Siemens, the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, and other defense and commercial entities. Action Drone Inc. provides custom-built drones, tailored for specific tasks, such as search and rescue, mapping, environmental monitoring, and military applications. Their drones are designed to tackle difficult missions in harsh environments, ensuring safety and efficiency for their clients.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5-10 years, I see the drone industry evolving rapidly, with several key shifts and trends shaping its future. First, we’ll likely see drones becoming an integral part of everyday operations in industries like agriculture, logistics, construction, and public safety, driven by advancements in automation and AI. As regulations catch up to technology, more businesses and government agencies will be able to scale up their drone operations.
One big trend will be the growth of autonomous drones, capable of performing complex missions with minimal human intervention. These drones could be used for everything from package deliveries to infrastructure inspections and search and rescue missions. We’re also expecting a shift towards drone swarming technology, where multiple drones work in coordination, which could revolutionize sectors like defense and disaster response.
Additionally, data collection and analytics will play an increasingly crucial role, as drones become essential tools for gathering real-time data in fields like environmental monitoring, urban planning, and precision farming. Another key change will be the development of better battery technology, enabling longer flight times and more efficient operations.
As the industry matures, I also foresee a stronger regulatory framework emerging globally, creating more standardized practices and clearing up legal uncertainties. With that, the market will expand significantly, and drones will become even more essential in solving complex challenges across the world.
