Conversations with Jennifer Kennedy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Kennedy

Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey back in 2009 while working for MAC cosmetics in San Diego. That is where I fell in love with all things beauty! After a year with MAC cosmetics I relocated to Portland, Oregon where I wanted to further my journey and go to beauty school. In 2013
I left MAC cosmetics and obtained my esthetician license and had a strong desire to get into lash extensions. I opened my first lash studio a few months after graduating beauty school and it turned into something bigger than I anticipated. I fell in love with the tedious work that went behind constructing every lash fan, every full set and how challenging it would be. I love a good challenge! After a few years of being in Oregon I moved back home to San Diego where I re-opened my second lash studio in 2017 to now. In the process I decided to go back to school for nursing. When I say I love all things aesthetic, I do! My goals and dreams are to one day add on to my current services and have lashes, injectables and all things laser!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think thats why I love this industry so much! It’s never just a “smooth road.” Its a challenging road with bumps, holes and windy corners, but thats the thrill of it. What has humbled me the most is the challenges. I think for me when I moved back to San Diego in 2017 I had to essentially start from scratch and that was hard, but I achieved it by being patient, asking questions and trusting the process.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a lash artist through and through! I specialize in natural wispy lashes, but love a good thick mega volume set. I believe in adding to ones beauty and not taking away from it. It has taken me a long time to be proud of myself, but I would have to say the desire to never give up is what I am most proud of. Moving and starting over from one state to the next really showed me how driven I was to not give up.

How do you define success?
I consider success to be a process of reaching small and large milestones. Challenges help me look at problems from different perspectives and find creative solutions. Success is waking up everyday and going into work and its fun, not daunting or draining. I don’t think I have ever had a day where I was dreading doing lashes. If you love what you do you will never work a day in your life!
