Check Out Jessie Fowler’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessie Fowler

Hi Jessie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My dad would let me use his camcorder when I was young and I fell in love with capturing moments. From filming my sister’s dance recitals to becoming the top editor of my senior class in high school, I found something I was really good at. I ended up moving from Jersey to Southern California to study film at Cal State Long Beach where I got my bachelor’s. I thought moving and getting my degree would be the key to success but it did quite the opposite. School curriculums ended up discouraging me to the point where I moved back to the east coast and invested in personal training. It wasn’t until four years later, a failed relationship, and a calling from my mentor that I decided to try again. This time I packed all that I could and drove across country back to LA. With all hands on deck, I denied a very high-class personal training position for my newfound passion in showcasing queer creatives. I put all my time and money into investing in rebranding, new equipment, and meeting as many queer women as possible. I quickly realized this is where I was supposed to be. On pride stages, creating commercials for my friend’s brands, and traveling all over to cover talented queer brands. I am now successfully 8+ years independent with my company Jkiillem Shots. I have also hired a diverse team of queer women to assist on my shoots and have worked with well over hundreds of clients all over the U.S. Branching further I have expanded to the front of the camera as a successful social media influencer, YouTuber and content creator. I have also successfully worked with taste entertainment for over 8 years serving the community by providing women only events all over the country. I have been blessed for the past three years to travel with taste as well as independently as an exotic performer for women who love women. Ultimately my voice and presence has gained traction as a masculine lesbian to bring confidence to those who relate..

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If the road is smooth then there is no true success! It takes a lot of perseverance against all the odds and setbacks to show the world as a business owner how strong you truly can be. I remember my first gig. I had the worst video set up that broke apart in the crowd at my first Taste Ent. Event. I lost my phone and my camera flash in the same night! I remember being embarrassed and irritated I wasn’t more prepared. After that night, I realized I needed to invest in my brand and my equipment more seriously. The first year was full of sacrificing my time in order to prove my worth to my community. I would work intense gigs and never get paid, I lost relationships and had my work denied by large companies. I have been pursuing careers such as acting and modeling and have been denied gigs and casting calls left and right. I’ve also lost many connections, clients had friends along the way. Now looking back, I’m extremely glad I went through every setback as it brought me exactly where I needed to be today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work is an artistry as it reflects what I see in real life. I’m able to use the camera as my paintbrush and capture lgbtq+ creatives as my subjects. I realized early on that I am filling a major gap by providing high-quality content for those who need it! I have invested in a load of equipment and software to make sure that I am able to fulfill every client’s vision for their event, brand or mission. Being in this position where those in the community can rely on me and seeing their responses to my work has truly been the most rewarding experience of all. My work is entirely unique on its own, where I combine high-quality video, sound effects and music to immerse the viewer in an accurate yet heightened experience of what the event or product truly embodies.

Because of my unique image and stage presence I’ve been able to be a voice & image for those who relate. I’ve also used my videos and choreography to highlight sensuality to help loosen the stigma on its shame within society. I’ve realized the importance of using my voice to help boost the importance of community, confidence and sexuality within the LGBT+ community and outside of it as well.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most of my development has been within the public eye, but not many know how long the journey has been. I’ve started out with very humble beginnings as I came out at 22 so my history before then isn’t very public. I was entirely different, long hair, very insecure and bullied a lot of my early life. I just knew that there was something bigger for me the whole time. So no matter what setbacks were thrown my way, I kept persevering toward that feeling I had deep down at a very early age. I plan on continuing this path to bring together more of the community, host bigger and better things, and fight for our rights and respect in society that we deserve.
