Today we’d like to introduce you to Arianne Behbahani.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started working in food service at a young age in Newport, RI and instantly fell in love with the industry. My fondest memories as a child were in the kitchen with my Persian grandmother and I always felt that same sense of home working in restaurants. While pursuing a degree in Environmental Studies in San Francisco, I took a food and agriculture supply course which drove home a sense of needing to be more in touch with where our food comes from. This led me to a master’s degree in Food Culture and Communications at the University of Gastronomic Science in Pollenzo, Italy which is rooted in the Slow Food Movement. I moved back to San Francisco knowing I wanted to open a food business that highlighted farmers and locally sourced cuisine. It was here that I met my business/life partner and chef, Liam, while working in catering and we decided to begin our journey as food truck owners. We moved to San Diego and have been on the road feeding the community healthy comfort food for the last 7.5 years and feel so fortunate to be able to do what we love every day!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It most certainly has not. Since we are a mobile business there have been literal bumps in the road from mechanical issues to equipment issues and beyond. Then there was Covid, which thankfully we survived. In addition, working with your significant other has it’s own set of challenges. There have been many more ups and downs in between but much like life, you experience the lows to learn and make it to the next upturn.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a food truck serving healthy comfort food to the streets of San Diego. We make everything from scratch from our sauces to our marinades and whenever possible, highlight the local bounty we are so fortunate to have access to here in our region. We are proud to serve delicious food with no preservatives that people can feel good about eating. Call us for events ranging from music festivals to weddings and corporate gatherings, we do it all!
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Starting any business endeavor takes risk. You risk your time, money, and emotional capital on an idea that you have no idea will work or not. However, putting yourself in a position to succeed by honing your skills and constantly improving and finding solutions, even when you personally can’t solve them, makes the risk seem more manageable. As Coach Bruce Arians says, “no risk it, no biscuit”.
