Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex McGinness.
Hi Alex, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I didn’t take the typical design school path. I studied biology in college even though I knew pretty early on that becoming a research scientist wasn’t actually my dream. My dad wanted me to join the Air Force, but that didn’t happen either. I always knew I was meant to carve my own path, even if I didn’t quite know what that looked like yet.
My journey really started unfolding when I stepped into my local yoga studio. Yoga cracked something open in me. It led me to leave my conventional job, trust my intuition, and start exploring new directions. I began managing my yoga studio’s WordPress site, rediscovering a love for design that had quietly lived in me since my MySpace coding days. I eventually went back to school for web development and design, and that is when Arcoíris Design Studio was officially born.
At first, I thought I was just a web designer. But the more I worked with clients, the more I saw how deeply connected design is to identity, self-expression, and alignment. That realization became crystal clear when I was called to create The Desert Oracle Deck. During a trip to Joshua Tree under a full moon and meteor shower, I downloaded the idea for my own oracle deck. It blended my love for color, symbolism, and intuitive practice into a design offering for the first time.
Since then, design has become my spiritual practice. Today, I blend brand strategy, web design, and intuition to help visionary entrepreneurs express the most authentic version of themselves online through color, storytelling, and intentional design that feels like them.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. One of the first challenges I faced was pricing. I had to learn how to confidently charge for the value of my work while staying accessible and aligned with my values. There was a lot of unlearning around money, worth, and the real energy that goes into creative service work.
Then came boundaries. In the beginning, I wanted to give so much to every client. Over time, I realized how important it is to protect my energy and create clear, supportive structures for how I work. Setting boundaries has allowed me to show up fully for my clients while also sustaining my own creativity and well-being.
Underneath all of it has been my mental health. That has probably been the most challenging piece. There have been seasons where the pressure of running a business felt overwhelming, and I had to slow down and prioritize my own healing. Those experiences have taught me how I want to build my business, with care, spaciousness, and compassion for both myself and the people I serve.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Arcoíris Design Studio?
At its core, Arcoíris Design Studio is about helping creative, intuitive entrepreneurs bring the most authentic version of themselves into the online world. I specialize in brand identity, web design, and brand strategy, but what really sets my work apart is how much I blend strategy, intuition, and visual storytelling. I work mostly with spiritual entrepreneurs, healers, coaches, therapists, and wellness businesses who want their brand to feel like them. They are passionate about what they do but often feel overwhelmed when it comes to translating their vision into a cohesive brand and online presence.
What makes my approach unique is how personal and collaborative the process is. I do not believe in one-size-fits-all branding. I believe your brand should reflect your essence, your energy, and your values. I bring a strong foundation in design and development, but also weave in intuitive practices, like my astrobranding sessions that weave astrology into branding work, which was born out of my own creative and spiritual journey. Design, for me, is not just about making things look beautiful. It is about helping my clients feel seen, aligned, and empowered in their business.
I am most proud of how many clients tell me that they finally feel like their brand feels like them. That is the highest compliment I can receive. My work allows my clients to show up with more confidence, knowing their brand fully reflects who they are and what they stand for.
Currently, I offer custom branding and web design services, Squarespace templates, strategy sessions and Astrobranding readings. I am also releasing my resource library called The Apothecary soon, which offers magical tools for creative business owners. Everything I create is designed to bring more ease, clarity, and resonance to my clients’ work.
If there is one thing I want people to know, it is that your brand is not supposed to feel like a mask. It’s supposed to feel like you, fully embodying your spirit.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people are surprised to learn that I am actually really shy. It probably doesn’t seem that way because of how much I put myself out there, especially when I am at events or networking. But at my core, I am just a girl who loves quiet time, being alone, and getting lost in a good book. I have learned how to stretch outside my comfort zone for my business, but my happy place will always be a cozy corner with a book, my thoughts, and a little bit of peace.
