Meet Chazmine And Michaelangelo Sansano of Mayari Coffee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chazmine And Michaelangelo Sansano.

Chazmine and Michaelangelo, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Mayari Coffee is a husband and wife owned coffee cart. What began as a simple morning ritual turned into a real life opportunity.

Mayari Coffee is a tribute to the vibrant culture and exquisite flavors of the Philippines. Our goal is to introduce the world to the rich and diverse coffee flavors inspired by the various regions of the Philippines while also supporting small and female-owned farmers in the Philippines. We are more than just a coffee company; it is a celebration of Filipino culture and a commitment to sustainable development.

We also want to build a platform for mental health awareness through our series “Voice of Depression.” With this series, we invite those who are strong enough to share their stories, giving them a chance to voice for others to feel seen, heard and supported.

Our Kapamilya, which translates to family in Tagalog, continues to grow to this day. With customers joining us in supporting a brighter future for Filipino coffee communities and sharing the rich heritage of the Philippines with the world.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To say it has been a smooth road is an understatement because it definitely has not been.

To be transparent with you, the biggest and most challenging obstacle that we face and continue to face is financial. Financially owing a small business is challenging, especially with a vision that you have. We have so many ideas that we want to do for Mayari, but realistically speaking, some of the ideas need to be put off until we are more stable. Another challenging factor is that we are husband & wife owned shop, meaning that our pop ups are solely ran by us two. With Michaelangelo finishing up his career, Chazmine is fortunate enough to stay at home to watch our child and run Mayari Coffee with what she can do. Thankfully, we do have our family/friends with us to help watch our toddler, but it can be very difficult where we are not fortunate with that help. Whilst we understand that it demonstrates unprofessionalism on our end, we sometimes have to bring our child along so that we won’t miss out on a pop up event that has already been scheduled, and we are so happy that our kapamilya is truly supportive of it!

We’ve been impressed with Mayari Coffee, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mayari Coffee was built out of love and passion for Filipino culture. What sets Mayari Coffee apart from others is that we are not only serving coffee, but we are bringing awareness to Filipino coffee.

We support Filipino farmers from the Philippines who diligently source our coffee beans from different parts of the Philippines. Filipino coffee is not your average coffee that you get on a daily basis and that is what sets Mayari Coffee apart.

Mayari Coffee not only sells Filipino coffee, but we also sell matcha drinks as well that incorporates Filipino flavors that are nostalgic to the taste. From our popular flavors such as ube, turon and buko pandan, we truly aim to serve every cup to our Kapamiya flavors that will remind them of our Filipino culture, our home.

We are currently doing pop ups around San Diego in hopes to eventually open up a storefront here in the Chula Vista/National City area to serve our community the best of Filipino coffee!

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes us truly happy is our community, our Kapamilya. Not the fact that they are supporting us with purchasing a drink, but knowing that they are helping us spread awareness to our Filipino culture and what the Philippines is about.
