Dirt Don’t Hurt is the brainchild of three San Diego sisters. Growing up in a health-conscious household, using natural products was a way of life. As they grew up and had children of their own they saw how important and what a gift they had been given by being exposed to such a healthy organic lifestyle so early on.
They always dabbled in making their own products when store bought stuff just wasn’t up to snuff. When friends and family started requesting their products as gifts, they realized they might really have something. Shortly after they began selling their homemade products at local farmer’s markets.
Fast forward to 2017, the most requested product by far has been their all natural activated charcoal tooth powder. As family and friends experienced how these products transformed their teeth, they knew they had to share this with everyone. Dirt Don’t hurt invites you to get down and dirty with us.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a fairly smooth road, just a few bumps over the years. Managing the day to day tasks such as 8 weekly farmers market, Festivals across Southern California and local stores has proved to be a challenge but keeping solid systems in place has simplified the process.
Keeping up with the growth of our small business has been a struggle when it comes to balancing mom life and the daily demands of keeping everything afloat on our own.
We’ve faced these challenges head-on by expanding our team and learning to delegate to others and not try to do everything on our own. Sometimes it takes a village
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Dirt Don’t Hurt story. Tell us more about the business.
We are an ALL NATURAL Activated Charcoal based company, completely earth + plant-based, Vegan, and Cruelty-Free. We use no harmful chemicals, fillers, preservatives, or additives. We take pride in the fact that all of our products are all designed and formulated to Detox your body naturally, specifically, Mouth, Skin, Teeth etc.
We also keep our ingredients in their Raw, Natural state to derive the most detoxifying benefits. Our company is different from most Natural Product Companies in that we spend a great deal of time with our customers educating them on some of the harmful side effects associated with their everyday cosmetic and beauty products.
Most people are surprised to find out the amount of chemicals that the average woman places on her body in a typical day, 515 chemicals total every day!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The Industry as a whole is really tuning in to holistic, natural beauty and body care products. People are becoming much more conscious and aware of what they are putting in and on their bodies.
Because of these new trends, we see the industry shifting towards products that are less processed and that rely heavily on chemicals, preservatives and fillers to increase their shelf life. And more focused on buying local, handmade, sustainable, and eco-friendly products, that benefit not only themselves but the environment as well.
