Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Chavarria.
Hi Andy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
As a kid, I moved from LA to San Diego with 7 siblings and a single Mom. After graduating from high school, I tried college for about a month when I realized that school was not a good fit for me because I didn’t really enjoy it. Soon after dropping out, I got into working in construction and stayed in that path for the next 15 years. It was in 2016 that I became to show interest in the permanent make-up industry because of my wife; she had just started her entrepreneurship in this industry and was doing very well so I decided to give it a shot to join her small business. I decided to leave the construction industry to start a new career path with her and expand her business. This decision would turn out to be the best decision of my life!
The permanent make-up industry has completely changed my life and my family’s life in the most amazing way possible. We now have the ability to create our own schedule and give myself and family the life that we could only dream of. This decision also led me to find my true passion in life which is to be a teacher and mentor to new students.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I believe there is no smooth roads when it comes to success; along the way you will find a lot of roadblocks, things that do not go your way and can maybe sidetrack you from your goal; I can say I had many of these roadblocks specially in the permanent make-up industry where 98% of the industry is all women. I was criticized by my siblings, friends’ colleagues for making this radical change in my life; they said I wouldn’t last in the industry, called me very disrespectful names. But rather than having it be my weakness I made it my strength by coming out and showing everyone that it was possible to be successful as a Male PMU Artist (Permanent Make-up Artist) in 2020 and 2021 I was #1 in the USA for sales in trainings and #2 in the world.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Permanent make-up trainer and artist. I specialize in the training of new students looking to learn this beautiful art. I’m known for being married to another PMU trainer her name is Cinthia Holguin and are mostly known for being ‘The Brows couple.’ the thing that I’m most proud of is the fact that I was able to open this door to more men to join the industry and actually help them be successful like I am. Having the knowledge, credibility, skills, and experience in the industry is what sets me apart from others.
What do you think about luck?
To some point, I can probably say that I did have some luck in my life by having such a great and loving mom which led to an amazing childhood even though I didn’t grow up with my dad. This gave me the patience and motivation to be the person I am today. I’m also lucky to have had a great mentor and best friend in my wife.
