Conversations with Maureen Holleran

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maureen Holleran.

Hi Maureen, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Maureen Holleran, and I am an accomplished psychic, empath, and intuitive consultant. I have been working professionally for more than 40 years and am internationally respected for my authenticity, accuracy, and commitment to my clients.

My journey with the Tarot began during a profound turning point in my life. It was never my intention to master the Tarot professionally. In many ways, my relationship with the Tarot became an unexpected form of healing and transformation — almost like a spiritual 12-step program.

At the time, a deeply passionate but unstable five-year relationship had come to an end, and I could no longer run from my true, authentic self. What I now recognize as “The Tower” in Tarot symbolism was unfolding in my life — a complete dismantling of false structures, beliefs, and illusions. It was painful, emotional, and life-changing, but ultimately necessary for my growth.

Looking back, I understand that this transformation was fueled by years of repressed emotions, frustration, and a lack of self-reflection. Although the shift in my beliefs, values, and identity was overwhelming at the time, it ultimately allowed me to rebuild my life on a much more authentic foundation.

During this period, someone gave me an Aquarian Tarot deck. Initially, I had little interest in learning the meanings of 78 cards, and I certainly did not realize the depth of the inner transformation taking place within me. But over time, I found myself repeatedly drawn to the imagery, colors, and symbolism of the cards. I began sketching what I saw and felt while working with them, creating deeply emotional and intuitive interpretations through art.

I also immersed myself in research and study, often spending hours each day in the library searching for answers — although deep down, I believe I was really searching for myself. That process became both healing and awakening.

Another important part of my journey involved overcoming fear and shame surrounding my psychokinetic abilities. I eventually contacted the UCLA Parapsychology Department, where I participated in various psychokinesis studies and research programs. That experience was incredibly liberating and helped me better understand my intuitive sensitivities and experiences.

Over time, I came to realize that the Tarot was never meant for me to interpret strictly by the book. Instead, it became a living symbolic language — something to be experienced intuitively through feeling, patience, imagery, and inner awareness. To this day, I still have hundreds of Tarot interpretation drawings from that transformative period of my life.

I believe the Tarot is ultimately a symbolic reflection of the human experience. I encourage others who study it to move beyond rigid definitions and connect with their own authentic inner voice. So much of our personal strength, wisdom, and spiritual growth comes through the struggles and transformations represented within the Tarot itself.

Today, after more than four decades of professional practice, I remain deeply committed to helping others find clarity, healing, empowerment, and a deeper understanding of themselves and their life path.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth road. Many of the struggles I experienced began very early in life.

By the age of five, unusual abilities were already manifesting, though at the time I had no understanding of what was happening to me. What I would later come to understand as psychokinetic abilities — sometimes referred to as psychokinesis or telekinesis — were occurring unconsciously and involuntarily. These experiences were confusing and often frightening, especially as a child.

Growing up in a large and financially successful family, I often felt emotionally isolated and misunderstood. I was labeled as strange, different, or even crazy because of the sensitivities and experiences I was having. For many years, I struggled to accept these abilities and spent a great deal of time trying to avoid or suppress what I instinctively knew was part of my spiritual path.

Looking back, I realize that many difficult lessons and poor choices came from not fully accepting who I was meant to become. Eventually, I reached a point where I understood that I needed to surrender old habits, trust in something greater than myself, and fully embrace the work I felt called to do.

That process was not easy. I devoted countless hours to studying, reading, and seeking knowledge from authors and teachers who became important influences in my life. During this time, the emotional and physical strain connected to my psychokinetic experiences became extremely intense, eventually affecting my health and contributing to serious exhaustion and heart-related issues. Seeking answers and support, I contacted the UCLA Parapsychology Department, which was known for its research into psychokinesis. I later participated in various studies there, and the experience proved to be both validating and deeply rewarding.

As my journey continued, I immersed myself in the study of astrology, numerology, and especially the Tarot. I discovered that these symbolic systems reflected universal patterns within the human experience, and I began to recognize a profound connection between the Tarot, energy, movement, and intuition. Over time, I developed my own highly intuitive approach to reading the cards — one rooted not only in traditional meanings, but in energy, symbolism, and inner perception.

While the road has been challenging, every struggle ultimately shaped the person and practitioner I am today. Those experiences deepened my compassion, strengthened my intuition, and allowed me to help others with greater understanding, clarity, and authenticity. Today, after more than four decades of professional work, I remain deeply grateful for the journey and for the opportunity to guide others through their own transformations.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk has always meant something very personal to me. On one level, I have always embraced adventure and lived fearlessly in many ways — for example, I loved skydiving and jumped out of airplanes many times throughout my life. But the greatest risks I have faced were not physical; they were the moments in life that forced me to surrender control, trust deeply, and completely redefine who I was.

In April 2025, I underwent open-heart surgery that lasted nearly 10 hours. Tragically, I did not wake up afterward. I spent 20 days in a coma, suffered 18 mini-strokes, was placed on a ventilator, and underwent a tracheostomy. Altogether, I spent 67 days in the hospital fighting for my life.

When I finally regained consciousness, one of the greatest blessings was learning that my brain function remained intact despite everything my body had endured. However, I had lost the ability to walk independently and even needed to relearn basic tasks such as feeding myself. Recovery became both a physical and spiritual journey.

Through determination, faith, and an incredible will to live, I learned to walk again in what my physical therapists described as record time. That experience changed me profoundly. It gave me an even deeper appreciation for life, resilience, gratitude, and the extraordinary strength of the human spirit.

Today, my perspective on risk is very different. I no longer see risk simply as danger or uncertainty. I see it as the willingness to continue living fully despite fear, hardship, loss, or the unknown. Sometimes the greatest act of courage is simply choosing to keep moving forward and finding meaning through adversity.

One of the most meaningful things to come from this experience is that I am now in the process of writing a book about my journey, recovery, spiritual insights, and my new outlook on life. I hope it will inspire others to recognize the resilience within themselves and understand that even the darkest experiences can become powerful opportunities for transformation and awakening.

Looking back, every challenge I have survived has ultimately deepened my compassion, strengthened my faith, and brought me closer to my authentic purpose.
