Inspiring Conversations with Cristina “Yali” Ayala of Savage Boxing Gym

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristina “Yali” Ayala.

Hi Cristina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story with the boxing gym I co-founded, Savage Boxing Gym, is rooted in a simple but powerful realization: True peak performance is holistic.

I started in operations and project management then as a licensed cornerman, obsessed with the sport and the sheer physical output it demands. But after years in the business, I noticed a huge missing piece for our fighters and our boxing enthusiasts: the recovery, the nutrition, and the inner health that supports the punch.

That gap led me to get certified as a holistic health coach, focusing on gut health, nutrition, and hormones. I took my knowledge from weight loss and bodybuilding and merged it with the discipline of boxing.

Today, this gym is a reflection of that journey. We’re not just teaching you how to fight; we’re teaching you how to fuel, recover, and think like a champion. We deliver the intense physical challenge of boxing with the deep, science-backed wellness coaching that ensures your body and mind can keep up.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hasn’t been smooth, but it’s been rewarding. One of the main struggles was simply the integration—taking the time to step away from the operational side of the gym and earn those deep certifications in gut health, nutrition, and hormones. It’s a massive shift to go from being a full-time cornerman and operator to a science-backed health coach.

We had to figure out how to offer those deep, high-value wellness services without diluting the core identity of a hardcore boxing gym. It was a balancing act to make sure the nutrition and recovery science was as accessible and effective as the punch combinations we teach. But by overcoming that, we created something truly unique in Vista.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Savage Boxing Gym is recognized as Vista’s premier destination where combat fitness meets advanced holistic health science. What you should know is that we are not just a facility for hitting a bag; we specialize in creating champions both inside and outside the ring.

What sets us apart is that our expertise is twofold and mutually reinforcing: My background provides the advanced wellness coaching in gut health, hormones, and nutrition, while my husband/partner, who is our Head Coach and an expert in high-level boxing technique, ensures that the physical training is elite and authentic.

We are most proud that our brand stands for Intelligent Intensity. We offer the sweat and grit of a boxing gym, backed by the science and precision of a health coach. Our readers should know about our high-value services, like our ‘Knockout Nutrition’ 1-on-1 coaching, where we use science-backed planning to fix digestive issues and balance hormones, turning bodies into finely tuned machines.

Ultimately, we are known for taking people beyond basic fitness. Whether you’re a fighter training for a bout or a local professional seeking peak energy and mental clarity, Savage Boxing Gym provides the ultimate combination of physical discipline and scientific wellness to help you fuel, recover, and dominate.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice for anyone starting in the fitness or wellness space is simple: Don’t chase trends; define your own lane.
Early on, it’s easy to look at what every other gym or coach is doing and try to replicate it.
But that’s a formula for mediocrity. You’ll waste your time on something that won’t work for you.

What I wish I knew was the sheer importance of unapologetic authenticity. Focus on what makes your approach genuinely different, and then commit to being the absolute best at that one thing.

You need to be deeply passionate about your core mission, because that passion is the only thing that gets you through the inevitable 16-hour days and the inevitable setbacks. Success in this industry is a marathon, not a sprint, and passion is the fuel that lasts.
