Inspiring Conversations with Jennifer Bredthauer of Sunshine Detailers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Bredthauer.

Jennifer Bredthauer

Hi Jennifer, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began this career due to personal enjoyment of this particular trade, in the form of a hobby. I loved working on my personal car, and I wanted to start a business that didn’t feel like “work”. I got into detailing by working for a smaller detail company, learned how the business worked and what/what not to do; and began my own within a year. My 10 year goal is to have a work shop that does collision repair and full service auto customization, such as paint jobs, custom flares, upholstery etc.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Getting started was fairly smooth. It was a simple process getting a business license and equipment. The biggest challenge has been reaching out to new customers, and scaling the business; so that I am on track to reach my long term goals. Recently, this challenge has been turning into success. I have Cardiff Classics as a customer, and that was a helpful introduction to other new clients.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Sunshine Detailers?
In addition to detailing vehicles, boats, and planes: we specialize in paint correction, scratch removal, and ceramic coatings. My business is mobile and we come to you, at your location and a time that is convenient for you. Our prices are fair and we do high-quality work. I am most proud of my before and after gallery, and how happy the customer is after the work is done. We offer free, in-person, quotes!

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
The first year will be the most difficult year to turn a profit, and you must put yourself out there to find business, and follow up with people. Customers do not just fall into your lap, it is your job to find qualified leads. Scaling a business is hard but I would also recommend watching or reading educational media on how to do it, like on YouTube. As the owner, what happens is entirely your own choice.
