Inspiring Conversations with Kalani Millsaps of One of Us Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kalani Millsaps

Hi Kalani, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
One of Us Bar started as an idea between friends who were looking for a nice, clean place to watch a San Diego Wave FC game without having to ask staff at the bar to put the game on. There have been too many situations like this one for too many women’s events and One of Us Bar is here to change that.

We want to break the mold of the traditional sports bar with sticky floors and greasy food. We’re creating an atmosphere where every customer feels like they belong—a place where cheers echo louder, team spirit is celebrated, and every screen prioritizes the games that matter.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our current challenge is securing funding. Building a business from the ground up is a difficult process. Traditional loans and banks see One of Us Bar as a high-risk business and are hesitant to approve loans without matching dollar for dollar. Instead, we are looking for an investor that believes in the growth of women’s sports and understands our vision and is just as passionate as we are about bringing it to life.

As you know, we’re big fans of One of Us Bar . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
One of Us Bar is here to fill a long-overdue gap in the market: a dedicated space that celebrates women’s sports. Every screen will tell the stories of the athletes who inspire us, while our thoughtfully crafted menu, signature cocktails, and dynamic atmosphere create an experience unlike any other.

More than that, One of Us Bar will be a cultural and social hub. Our name says it all. “One of Us” is about community. It’s about being part of a shared passion, a bigger story, and a growing movement. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or a newcomer to women’s sports, when you step into our bar, you’re not just a customer—you’re one of us.

The timing couldn’t be better. Women’s sports are experiencing unprecedented growth, with record-breaking viewership numbers and increasing demand for representation. One of Us taps into this momentum, providing a unique and timely concept that resonates with an underserved market.

We are poised to establish ourselves as a leader in the next wave of sports entertainment. Every detail is designed to deliver more than just a game—it’s an unforgettable experience.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Although it is not a lesson but rather something we’ve always believed, but experiencing it firsthand has been incredible—women’s sports fans are passionate, loyal, and deeply engaged. They show up, support each other, and create a powerful sense of community. This bar is more than just a business; it’s a celebration of that energy and a vital part of a growing movement.
