Today we’d like to introduce you to Cymone Harris.
Hi Cymone, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
From My Kitchen to Your Home: How I Started Unyevu Skincare.
When I started Unyevu Skincare, I wasn’t thinking about building a business, I was just trying to solve a problem for myself. When I got pregnant with my daughter in 2020, I battled dry and sensitive skin from eczema. I wanted something natural, effective, and affordable—but the products on the shelves either didn’t work, or pure Shea butter was a little too heavy.
Unyevu means “moisture” in Swahili, and that’s exactly what I was searching for, a way to nourish my skin and keep it healthy. One day, I decided to stop searching and start creating. I gathered some raw shea butter, aloe vera, essential oils, and a handful of ingredients I trusted and I got to work in my kitchen.
It started as an experiment. I spent hours researching, blending, and testing until I came up with my first batch of body butter. When I shared it with my family and friends, the response was overwhelming. They loved it—and not just because it worked, but they loved how it felt on their skin, and how confident it made them feel.
That’s when it clicked. This wasn’t just about skincare, it was about creating something that could help people feel good in their own skin, just like it was helping me.
With encouragement from my husband, family, and friends, I took a leap of faith and officially launched Unyevu Skincare in 2021 right before moving to Spain. I started small, I created samples and handed them out at the local bar in Spain. One day, I sold a jar of body butter to the owner’s wife, who then allowed me to bring a handful of products to the bar as a sitting vendor, which was usually Karaoke Thursday night.
However, in true Navy fashion, July 2023 we packed up and moved to San Diego. Once we settled in, I hit the ground running advertising in any Facebook group that I could. It wasn’t until I became a vendor at the 2024 Juneteenth Festival that things really took off. By networking with all the other vendors, I was able to gather information regarding future vending opportunities and gain a community here in San Diego.
Balancing life as a Navy wife, a mom to two amazing kids, and running Unyevu, I’ve learned to make the most of every moment. My son helps label jars, my husband and I test the products, and my daughter’s laughter often fills the room while I’m working on new products. It’s a family effort, and that makes it even more special.
Unyevu isn’t just about moisturizing skin—it’s about creating moments of self-care, joy, and confidence. Every jar, bar, and scrub is a reminder that taking care of yourself is a form of love. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share that love with so many people.
Every product was made with love, intention, and ingredients I trusted. I wanted my customers to feel like they were getting something truly special—because they were. Together, we’re building something beautiful—one product, one story, and one connection at a time.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No it has not! When you are doing everything yourself, everything is a challenge. Getting the right formula, was the first challenge. Branding, Marketing, sales, website designing, it’s all a challenge when you’re a one person show. However, with every challenge and setback, comes success.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What makes me unique is that I don’t formulate my body soufflé for the “glow” effect like most companies. My products are made to nourish chronic dry skin issues: eczema, psoriasis, etc.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Not really. Balancing entrepreneurship, motherhood and being a Navy wife I barely have time for myself. I do use quite a few different A.I related tools to help with social media marketing.
