Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Robert.
Joshua, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Art has always been a huge part of my life. In any form, art has always excited, inspired and guided me. I began drawing at a very young age, attended a performing arts high school in Canada where I studied everything from Fashion Design to Film. I majored in Visual Art and Dance and then made Dance my career after high school.
I spent the next ten years dancing professionally all over the world then relocated to Los Angeles. My love of dance and music then evolved into singing and songwriting which then led me to a career as a vocalist in China. Needless to say, my interests span many genres, and I like to keep busy by constantly creating.
The last couple of years I got back to my roots and really started to focus in on the visual arts. I have been lucky enough to have a few of my paintings sell and to be featured in shops and galleries around San Diego. I began promoting myself more on social media and did a lot of research finding out how to grow an online brand. I realized this type of promoting was an art in itself.
Photography, film, editing, music, graphic design and branding was all a form of art that I loved! Always being excited about the next big thing I thought “How can I make this social media game artistic, creative, more exciting and into a dope career?” Now mashing every single hobby, I have into one (art, film, photography, dance, music, fitness, etc) I took a leap of faith and created my company SOSCH: The Content Creator.
Now I get to create every single day, write and edit music, shoot talent, paint, create custom furniture and grow my very own artistic brand. Overall I view myself as the business, and I keep all avenues of creativity open and have started to build a wonderful career.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Turning your passion into your career and sole focus isn’t always easy, especially when it comes to the arts. There are so many talented people that believe they are next “It” artist and it becomes difficult to see why you are special and what makes you different. I find that the biggest roadblock in my experience was myself.
There were many moments of doubt and times when I give up completely for months out of frustration. Many opportunities I probably missed because I kept giving up on myself a hair too early. Getting back into the groove of things, hustling to make connections and form relationships with like-minded people in the industry has also been difficult at times when you are just praying for your big break.
All of that aside it is scary to say “hey I’m going to focus on art and create social media content instead of working a normal nine to five to make ends meet.” You kind of just have to take a leap and believe in yourself.
SOSCH – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
SOSCH is where I get to put all my passions to work. I get to work one-on-one with clients to enhance their social media presence and find out exactly what makes them special. I currently work with individuals in the fitness industry and hair stylists to up their social media game with exciting video and photo content.
I do an overhaul of the clients Instagram and create a brand new template of visually appealing and cohesive content. We shoot promotional photos and videos that highlight their talents, techniques, and personality so we can introduce them to a whole new audience and help them grow. I explore unique ways to edit so that everyone has their personality intertwined with their product.
I then do marketing and social media research related to the client’s field of work so I can educate them on ways to better use their Instagram and Facebook. I generate a bunch of the most popular and active hashtags, the best days and times to post for their audience, run promotions and even respond to their direct messages and comments.
The thing I am probably most proud of is the content I create. My favorite part is creating a positive experience for my clients and having fun while we shoot and learn about what exactly will make them “pop out” online. I love sitting down and starting the editing process, seeing the footage we created, piecing it all together to create something that brings joy to my clients and they feel is uniquely theirs.
The one thing that I feel sets SOSCH apart is the follow through. From the consultation to the completion of each project I am very hands-on and involved in the process of the social media “glow up” every step of the way. Since we offer complete social media management services, I feel as though we take care of our clients every social media need which then gives them time to focus on producing their best work.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Although you can’t live without a paycheck success for me isn’t always about numbers. I feel a sense of gratitude when a client loves what I have created for them. Whether it is a piece of art, a custom refurbished piece of furniture I designed or a social media account I completely transformed the end results always bring me the most joy.
I think looking at something you created and feeling like you did the best you could, you gave it your all, you put your heart, time and complete focus into it and don’t regret a second of it is success. If people respond with as much excitement as you then that’s a bonus.
