Art & Life with Jamie Nardoni

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Nardoni.

Jamie, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I first became interested in photography in 2007, my husband bought me a camera just thinking it would be fun! It was a Sony Alpha 200 and had lenses I could switch out. I had no idea how much my life was about to change! I absolutely loved every minute of it and the best part? People were noticing! I started a professional business after attending some classes at our local college, and it boomed. I was able to buy studio equipment, upgrade my camera and start shooting even more things like weddings and people.

I went for pretty much anything until 2013 when I saw a trichome the first time. I have been a cannabis smoker since my teens so this was definitely interesting!

When I started shooting cannabis, things changed again. I remember posting my first few images on Instagram and getting really excited that, once again, people were noticing. I sold a few images to different companies and again was able to upgrade my equipment (twice now) to a studio setting that is better for this type of photography.

Now I am super grateful to attend several cannabis events a year and have a following of nearly 25K on the social media accounts plus several features in magazines, art installations, shops and even a museum!

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Trichome Art Studio focuses on macro photography. I create beautiful imagery through a technique called “focus stacking”, where I take several images at different focal lengths and then “stack” them in photo processor, like Photoshop. I am able to share the up close images of Cannabis and other alternative plants, giving knowledge to many people about the structure and inner workings of the plant. With cannabis, you can clearly see the trichomes, where the THC is produced and stored, plus sometimes other things like genetic mutations, pests and fibers from clothing. From there I put the images on canvas, dab mats, coffee mugs and more and offer it all to the public through our website, cannabis events and recreational shops across the country and even internationally!

I donate 10% and more to causes for children directly to a few families that suffer with Leukemia and DIPG cancers, Epilepsy and more. Together, as a family, we rally for these families like they are our own. I do a donation day nearly monthly called “$5 Shoutout Day” where you can donate to the families and send a message out to be featured on our Instagram for a full day! People love it and the cause is great! Please check out @Katrina_FlowerGarden @Cannabis4Epilepsy and @TeamAddyBoo on Instagram and Facebook

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
I feel like pinpointing your specific skill is a must. When I was puttering around shooting families and weddings I never felt a powerful rush of satisfaction like I do with Trichome Art. I post these images like “Wow! I don’t think anyone has ever seen this before!” It gives me such a thrill to have something that no one else has. As an artist I feel it’s important to have that individuality.

There are many cannabis photographers, including macro photographers, like myself. I feel like what I do is different because of the way I present it. I build the frames, stretch the canvas (plus more) and then bring them to the community, shops and shows, to bring the artwork actually into your home and office, not just for viewing pleasure on your phone.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My website, www.trichomeartstudio.com, is featured on our Instagram and Facebook at @TrichomeArtStudio

You can come see me in person at most Southern California cannabis events, the next confirmed event will be KushStock Festival in San Bernardino on October 13th 2018
