Today we’d like to introduce you to Gianina Jimenez.
Gianina, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My creative mind blossomed as a child when I started drawing, carving, painting and taking photos with a disposable camera. I’ve always consumed my time with many types of art. In high-school, I took a Home Economics class and learned how to sew, sandblast and stamp carve. I also took a basic Art Class and was able to enhance my drawing, shading and painting skills. Throughout my teenage years, I always had a camera in hand to capture everyday moments. I found it very exciting turning in my film to see all the photos.
Years later into my twenties I saved enough money to purchase my first DSLR camera. I took one Photography Class for the basics, and I am largely self-taught by experience, research online and by networking with other photographers. After about two years I started taking on professional photography jobs, and GGalleria was born in 2010. GGalleria consisted of my works of art in both paintings and photography. My paintings are bright, colorful and abstract and can also be seen on my website.
Fast-forward to my early thirties I still absorb my time with all things creative. Photography being my main focus, I also taught myself how to knit and loom. I have started a company called “MUCHO LOVE” which is a 100% handmade company making knits of beanies, headbands, and scarfs for infants, children, and adults.
My story is still in the making, and I will always continue my passion for the arts!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My focus in Photography is Lifestyle Photography. Lifestyle Photography consists of Portraits, Engagement, Newborn, and Weddings. I like to capture candid moments of happiness and create a setting of joy during each photoshoot. I want people to walk away feeling confident and happy after a photoshoot with me. What is most rewarding is delivering the final product to my clients and hearing them express their gratitude. It’s a boost of confidence to see themselves in their photos. In my photo editing process, I ensure to keep the photos as natural and airy as possible to bring out the natural beauty in my subjects.
My focus with “MUCHO LOVE” was to create a company that makes all things 100% handmade with love. Each piece is handmade to order and custom to each customer. I specialize in knits that take hours upon hours to complete and in the process find it very therapeutic and relaxing. Each piece is different, and there will never be two that are exactly the same. The name MUCHO LOVE came from the fact that a lot of love and time go into every piece made. “Mucho” in Spanish translates to: “a lot.” I am a first generation born in San Diego, USA. My family comes from Costa Rica. My Spanish is not perfect, so I like to say I’m very good at speaking Spanglish. Mucho Love is a Spanglish statement.
How can artists connect with other artists?
My advice would be to network and reach out to other similar artist or artist you’d like to learn from. A lot of local San Diego artist are more than happy to collaborate or answer any questions you may have. Instagram and Facebook are great platforms to follow and ask advice from other artists.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work can be seen all over social media and online. My Photography on Instagram can be seen at @GgalleriaPhotog, and my works of Knitting is at @MuchoLoveCA
