Conversations with Maricel Murphy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maricel Murphy.

Hi Maricel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started my career in the San Francisco Bay area. I worked my way up from assistant to master stylist in my first 10 years.

I have always loved Learning and becoming a better stylist, so I enrolled in many advanced cutting and coloring classes over my 25-year career.

There’s so much to learn in this industry which is just one part of why I love it so much! From the chemistry of coloring to the science of trichology and beyond!

Of course, the very best part of my career is all the amazing people I’ve gotten to meet and learn about over the years, some of which have become my dear friends. I wouldn’t have met them if not for this job that I love so much.

What a blessing indeed!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anything new will be hard and learning how to do hair well is no exception. It took years of practice, failures, and victories for me to get where I am today. I think one of the biggest challenges is being really hard in myself. I’m learning to be much kinder.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Nowadays I really enjoy educating my clients about hair. I like to figure out why their hair may be damaged for example and how to get it back to good health and maintain it. I’d say I’m known for my haircuts, cutting really is my favorite thing to do, I can really get into the zone.

I’m most proud of stepping out on my own and starting my own business almost two years ago! I had gotten laid off from the salon I was working at during the pandemic and decided to start my own business with a very small and loyal clientele.

I’m happy to say it’s been almost 2 years and my little business is doing quite well!

I think what sets me apart from others is that I am very honest, meaning I’m not a salesman, in fact, I’m Terrible at sales!

I’m just very honest with people about what products and services they absolutely need to have healthy

Beautiful hair.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Thanks for taking the time to learn about me!
