Life & Work with Emily James

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily James.

Hi Emily, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started Spill The Tea Photography in Santa Rosa, CA. I have always loved photography but never really pushed myself until the pandemic hit and that gave me more free time to travel alone in my truck and get shots that would otherwise not be possible because so many people were home. I love to travel so now I travel and take photos all over the country and hope to be able to start international photography in the next year when it is safe to do so. The California coast is the most beautiful and where my love for photography really took hold.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Photography has generally taken a back seat but is slowly becoming more my main focus because it brings me so much joy.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in Landscape and what I call Bucket List photography for pets. The bucket list photography is for pet owners who have been given the unfortunate news that their beloved pet will not live much longer. Capturing those moments to have forever is truly magical and every owner has thanked me. I also volunteer with local dog rescues and team up for their fundraising events.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My biggest cheerleader would have to be my parents. They love my work and share it often. My biggest teammate would have to be Lily’s Pad Rescue, based out of Washington state. They rescue special needs bulldogs with Spina Bifida. Rachel, the President & Founder is a wonderful human being who has allowed me to take many photos of her rescues to not only gain visibility for them to find their forever home but also support my small business. I have so much respect for the hard work she does.
