Meet Ana Phelps

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Phelps.

Ana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in Brazil and moved here 28 years ago. As a kid back home my dad subscribed to National Geographic Magazine, I immersed myself in those pages and built a bucket list of places that I would go throughout my life ahead. Those amazing photographs soon got me into photography at age 16.

Back then Film was used, and you only had 24 or 36 chances to get the shot: in focus, the perfect light, and the best composition. I learned!! Exploring the moment through Photography became my adventure in life. It has taken me around the corner, around countries, and around the world. I have a degree in Psychology and Interior Design, my photographs are aimed at decorating your “Lonely Walls.” 30 plus countries later I am still looking forward to my next one.

Right now, I am very much in love with America’s National Parks and working on a project to photograph every single one of them.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I was a film purist and refused to go digital for many years. When I finally did, I had to learn a lot more on post-processing, editing, marketing myself and keeping up with social media. Looking for innovation and new venues is always a goal for me.

We are a very visual society, and there is a lot of room for Photography to bloom. You just have to find where your heart is and the doors will open, people will notice your work and kindred spirits will connect with your Art. That is the best part of my work.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
“Capturing Stillness through Photography”

I started surfing when I was 11, therefore, my connection with the Ocean and Coastal vibes shows a lot in my Photos. I love working with Interior Designers to decorate those “Lonely Walls.” My Photographs can be ordered on Aluminum/Metal, on Canvas, Acrylics, loose prints.

But the one process that has become very popular is the one I mount the Photographs on a wood panel and pour a thick coat of resin, the same resin they use on surfboards. It gives the piece a brilliant, glossy almost water-like look. It is very contemporary and unique. I offer in any size you want. Some of my work is part of “The Getty Image Bank” and other agencies.

My Photographs have been in many Art Exhibitions, featured in several magazines and newspapers. You can also find them at local places like “Bliss 101” and “Art N Soul” in Encinitas. “Form N Function” on Cedros, Solana Beach. “Cody’s Home” in Hillcrest. Local surf shops. They decorate many Business offices and upscale homes around town.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think someone achieves success professionally when they have their heart in their business, they enjoy what they are doing and time flows when you love what you do.

It gives me extreme happiness when someone else connects with my photograph and decides to take that moment into their space, home, office, etc..

Success is very much linked to Happiness. Family, friends, and traveling are also part of my happy place.
