Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Dahl Carcioppolo.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Courtney. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I would describe myself as a cheerful person, I love people and I love helping out in any situation, wherever I can. Although I am a very organized, “clean freak” and despite my Type A tendencies, I never really had a plan for what I wanted to do with my life. I studied music in college, not because I had a plan in place for how to use that degree, but I just knew it was something that I loved.
After graduating, I worked several jobs, serving at a restaurant and as a physical therapy aide. In 2011 I started working for woman who was in the Wedding Coordination business. I took to it quickly; event coordination ticks all the boxes on my list. It’s high-energy with always something to do, it’s people-oriented, detail-oriented and overall just fun! When the woman I was working for decided to close her business, I decided that I wasn’t done with coordination so after much deliberation on the perfect company name, I started Breezy Day Weddings and ventured out on my own in 2013.
I was born and raised in San Diego and have a very close relationship with my family, we all live on the same street and see each other every day. I started Breezy Day Weddings in 2013 and a year later, my sister, Heather joined the business with her floral design services, sister company, Breezy Day Florals. We have our three Goldendoodles who I am obsessed with and take up all of my spare time. Our family is very supportive, Heather runs Breezy Day Florals out of our grandparents’ garage and you’ll often see our Mom and Dad helping with wedding set-up. I had a great childhood, was very active in the Girl Scouts and my fondest memories are those of camping in the Sierra Nevada Mountains every summer with my grandparents.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been pretty smooth, we pride ourselves on making every couple beyond happy and work primarily off of referrals. We really believe that by treating all people with respect and kindness, our business will flourish. We want to be approachable, friendly and represent a fun-loving, family-oriented business and we believe that we have become known for this as a company.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Breezy Day Weddings story. Tell us more about the business.
Breezy Day Weddings is the perfect name for our little company, we want your day to be stress-free for you and your family. I specialize in Day Of Coordination, this is not to be confused with Wedding Planning. A wedding planner works with a couple from the very beginning and hires all of their vendors and plans the wedding for them.
A coordinator is someone who partners with the couple who has done all of their own planning. The coordinator comes in and brings their vision to life by confirming vendors, setting up décor, directing the rehearsal, managing the timeline on the day of the wedding and cleaning up at the end of the event. In 2014 we branched out and started offering floral services as well with our (literal) sister company, Breezy Day Florals.
In general, a lot of wedding vendors (photographers, DJ’s caterers, etc) have strong feelings about wedding planners and coordinators. One of the best compliments that we can get is having a fellow wedding vendor refer us to one of their clients. A good coordinator/planner will keep a level head during the most stressful times and treat all people with the utmost kindness and respect.
They are the go-to person during the event and a million questions will be asked throughout the day. They are working just as hard as everybody else, always one their feet with something to do and they are approachable and easy to work with.
We did almost 100 events in 2017 between coordination and floral design. We are so proud of how we’ve grown this little company. Although I’m lucky to be able to set my own hours and work primarily from home, I typically spend at least 8 hours a day answering emails and making phone calls. I drive all over San Diego to different venues to meet with couples and the typical wedding day starts with the rehearsal the day before and results in a 10-14 hour work day the day of the actual wedding.
I’ve struggled with hiring another coordinator, being able to trust an employee with my business name has been my hardest obstacle and one I’m still struggling to overcome. The company just means too much to me and every single couple’s wedding is far too important for me to risk even one slip-up by hiring the wrong person. So at this time, I’ve decided to keep my calendar a little bit lighter and continue to be the face of Breezy Day.
