Meet Christina Farrow of Aisle Planner in Encinitas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Farrow.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Christina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I graduated from college not knowing what career path I wanted to take, and I happened to stumble into a job in the advertising, film and production industry as a production assistant, working under a producer at a local film production agency. It wasn’t long before I fell in love with the process and intricacies of producing commercials and short films, and even more enamored with seeing these beautiful stories brought to life. I can’t tell you how incredibly lucky I felt to have “stumbled” on what would become my dream career path and I set my sights on becoming a film producer.

A few years in, still madly in love with the job in the film production industry, I received a phone call from a friend who was planning a destination wedding in my hometown. She had never set foot in my hometown but desperately needed some recommendations for wedding photographers. Little did I know that this simple request would quickly and dramatically change my career path!

As I continued to help my friend plan and pull together the details for her wedding day, I was surprised to find that so much of the wedding planning process mirrored that of film production, and the very same things that drew me to film production piqued my interest in event planning. By the time my friend’s wedding day came and went, I was hooked! It wasn’t long before I launched my wedding and event planning firm and started building my own business.

I absolutely loved planning weddings, and my business grew quickly! But as a small business owner with a thriving wedding planning business, I found myself increasingly overwhelmed with all that needed to be done. Rather than rejoicing in the fact that I had a growing business and enjoying my success as a small business owner, I was flat out miserable and heartbroken that the very thing I loved doing the most was dragging my whole world down.

I tried every possible solution over the years to streamline my planning and design process, and it frustrated me to no end knowing that even the best business tools on the market were not supporting my desire to be more, do more and live a more balanced life, let alone build a sustainable business.

That frustration became the spark that would become Aisle Planner, and what started as a simple desire to make my own planning process easier and more enjoyable became a full-blown obsession to help small business owners (who are predominantly female) in the wedding industry who all seemed to share the same sentiment, with a mission to build better business management, collaboration and wedding planning tools.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting and building a small business – or any business for that matter – is hard, especially when you’re a working mom with a young child. It’s even more challenging to start and build a software company when you have no background or prior experience in technology. When I first started writing specifications for our software, the most experience I had with technology was thanks to my new iPhone and my Facebook account!

Needless to say, the learning curve has been pretty rough. Finding the right mentor who has traveled this road before hasn’t been easy either, so as funny as it seems, I’ve relied on google quite a bit on my path of building this business. I’ve googled everything from “What does a CEO do?” to “What is a CAC ratio?” and everything in between!

I’m a firm believer that where there’s a will, there’s a way, and passion alone can help find ways of doing things you think you can’t, and even get you through rough patches when you just can’t see the light. And when passion runs low at times – because the struggle is SO real – having a few good cheerleaders at your side to lend their support and words of encouragement make all the difference.

I have an incredibly loyal team here at Aisle Planner HQ who are equally passionate about our mission and this business who I am incredibly thankful to have at my side. Their support and eagerness to help me “figure it out along the way” has made all the difference when it comes to overcoming challenges and obstacles.

Founded on the idea that there was a better way to plan weddings and events, Aisle Planner has grown to support both wedding professionals and the couples they serve.

While our primary mission has always been to support wedding pros to build strong and sustainable businesses, we realize that wedding pros cannot build and maintain a successful wedding business without customers, so overall, Aisle Planner works to bring wedding pros and couples together in a unique way within our platform.

For wedding professionals, we provide a back office solution and professional online planning tools to help run their businesses, showcase their work and expertise, connect with and book new customers, and plan their events from start to finish. For engaged couples, provides a home base for online wedding planning where they can find and save wedding inspiration and wedding planning tips and advice from our community of wedding pros.

Aisle Planner also provides an easy way for couples to find and connect with local wedding professionals in our wedding vendor marketplace and planning tools to pull all the resources together and turn their ideas and inspiration into reality. In an industry where some of the larger players in the wedding space downplay the value of wedding planners and wedding professionals in general, we understand the value that each wedding professional brings to the table when it comes to a well- planned and executed event, so we advocate – and will always advocate – for our pro community.

Having come from the industry as an event planner, I feel deeply connected to every one of our wedding pros and take a personal interest in making sure they are having the best possible experience working with us. Our team, most of who are from the wedding industry as well, shares that passion and that in itself makes us unique as a brand – as we set out change the industry from the inside out.

I can’t help but be proud of our small team and what we’ve built each and every time a customer shares with us how our tools are impacting their business and more importantly, their lives, for the better. Today, the Aisle Planner community is made up of wedding professionals in 52 countries around the world – from wedding planners to floral designers, venues and photographers (to name a few) and we are so excited for the road ahead!

Knowing that our work is creating possibilities where before there were none makes me over the moon proud – our work allows small business owners in the wedding industry to work more efficiently and do more with their time, make more money, lead better lives and ultimately stay passionate about the work that they do because of it. I couldn’t be more proud of being able to make that happen, and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else!

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Hawaii so it was natural that I would love hiking, exploring every corner of every island and soaking in the sun with long days at the beach as much as I do. I like to think that my adventurous nature growing up has played into the entrepreneurial spirit that runs in my blood!
