Meet Gilda Adler of Gilda Adler Photography in La Jolla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gilda Adler.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Gilda. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Photography has been a large part of my life ever since I was a child, in Romania. My grandfather was an amazing photographer and he gifted me my first camera.

He also taught me a lot about photography, art and the beauty of life around us. His darkroom was a tiny room where magic happened.

Life in Romania was deeply immersed in Arts. It was the only outlet I had to emotionally escape the Communist regime that was enslaving us from free thinking.

Romania was under Communist regime until 1989, and I was 18 years old when the country was no longer communist.

I didn’t start photography as a profession until my son was a few years old, here in San Diego. Until then, photography, although always a passion, was still only a hobby, and my son was my favorite, cherished model.

Today, I am a commercial photographer, freelancing and also collaborating with several magazines such as San Diego Magazine, Modern Luxury and, closest to my heart,  Discover North County/ Discover Rancho Santa Fe Magazine.

I am ever so grateful that with my camera I am given the opportunity to preserve the highlights of a celebratory event, to help treasure the memory of a lost loved one and as meaningful, to lend support to the many who work tirelessly behind the scenes at nonprofit events.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No road worth taking is ever smooth. Strong work ethic, integrity and hand crafted enduring professional relationships are the keys to working towards a “smoother” road.

I enjoy working with different personalities, listening to the clients’ input and strive to always better myself. I take criticism constructively and encourage it. It is the only way we grow as people and as artists. I take pride in having repeat customers year after year. So many customers have become dear friends- one of the beautiful rewards of my career.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a commercial photographer and cover areas like food photography, fashion, corporate portraits. My clientele includes celebrated professional athletes, well known business icons, global musical artists, nonprofit organizations, etc.

My style is organic and authentic, images are vibrant and honest. I take pride in delivering a consistent result. My client’s input is essential.

What were you like growing up?
I was a skinny girl on the go. I was driven by uncontainable curiosity. I loved trying new things. I had a vast love of books, music, classical music, ballet. I had an amazing love and appreciation of nature, travel and different cultures.
