Meet Gio Tuscano of Peanut Butter On Everything

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gio Tuscano.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Gio. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a Filipino American, originally from the San Francisco Bay Area/Daly City, born and raised. I moved to San Diego back in 2010. Growing up in the late ‘80s and ‘90s, I idolized those larger than life “superheroes” I saw on TV and in the movies—- like Stallone, Schwartzenegger, Jean Claude Van Damne. And I was, a huge wrestling fan too, still am, and The Ultimate Warrior, Sting, Rick Rude—-these guys were all charismatic, muscular-lookin’ dudes, and I wanted to be just like them.

So naturally, I gravitated towards bodybuilding, which I started to do as a freshman in high school. I would do it sporadically throughout high school but didn’t get too serious about it until my early 20s. I was planning a trip to Hawaii and I wanted to be in the best shape of my life. I studied up on it, read books, bought magazines, trained hard at the gym, tightened up my diet. It took a couple of months, but I hit my goal and I did it—-I got more muscle, I trimmed the fat, I got six pack abs. I was so fired up about my results, I became addicted to the health and fitness lifestyle, and I never looked back.

On that road, I also became a huge foodie, mainly of the dessert kind. I loved pancakes, crepes, gelato, donuts, chocolate—-you name it. So, being a bodybuilder and having a sweet tooth, you can see the dilemma and challenge I had to face to stay lean. I always loved trying new desserts and new eats at new restaurants, but they didn’t always use the healthiest of ingredients, they skimped on the flavors, it lacked protein, and/or they left much more to be desired. So I said, the heck with it, I’m just gonna create my own stuff! I wanted to create a food blog with the health conscious, lean physique, dessert lover in mind—and who also loved peanut butter, lol. And so here I am today, recipe creator, photographer, writer, and editor behind my protein recipe food blog, Peanut Butter On Everything.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well, for one, creating my own website was the single biggest challenge. A very time-consuming, frustrating challenge. I first started on Squarespace, which was great and easy for beginners, but realized that I wanted more customizable options, so I had to start all over and switch to WordPress. Learning how to use WordPress, a website creating software, from scratch with no web/graphic design experience whatsoever was a huge undertaking for me. I struggled constantly as I built up my site. Once I jumped over one hurdle, a bigger and larger one wouldn’t be that far ahead.

Thank God for Google and all those YouTube tutorial videos lol! I spent a lot of time doing tons and tons of research to make sure I had the best of the best, most updated stuff on my site. Food Blogger Pro and Pro Blogger were great resources I relied upon to help me through this.

All that inner resistance and doubt was another struggle. Like, could I actually do this? What if no one likes my stuff? Am I just wasting my time? And when I got to the point where I was ready to launch it, I kept delaying it, because I always thought it wasn’t good enough yet. Yeah, a lot of procrastination too. But once I got over that hump, I just kept riding that wave of momentum and never looked back.

My photography kinda sucked too in the beginning as well, so I had to learn all of that through trial and error. I didn’t have a fancy camera either, just my trusty iPhone. Just a whole lot of failing, changing my approach, and improving every step of the way was my ticket.

Third was balancing a 40 hour a week full time job and sacrificing a lot of my free time, turning down fun outings with friends and family, just so I could learn more website-building skills, and/or create content to improve my website.

Please tell us about Peanut Butter On Everything.
My food blog is called Peanut Butter On Everything and I specialize in creating healthy, delicious, high protein recipes for peanut butter lovers using all-natural ingredients. Yes, you need to try it, it’s delicious! Recipes are on the blog, lol.

I feel my recipes are the best, most creative, most delicious, fusion of flavors and nutrition you will ever find on the interwebs. I am most proud that these recipes may look sinfully delicious, but you can be rest assured because they were made using all-natural ingredients—-NO refined flours, NO granulated sugars, and NO butter is ever used. Yes, you can enjoy tasty desserts without all that unnecessary sugars, fats, and carbs! And load up on protein as an added bonus!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I remember the day I graduated from elementary school, I got straight A’s, and I was so pumped about it, and my parents were pretty excited too. I celebrated by playing baseball all day with my friends. School was over and done with, it was a hot summer day, we had the park to ourselves, and we played our favorite sport ‘til the sun went down. It was like our little “Sandlot” lol. Awesome, fun times.
