Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Sweetman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jamie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a student at UCLA, my emphasis was Printmaking and Painting. My MFA degree was geared towards Medial Illustration, so it was part Pre-Med and Illustration. I worked as a Medical illustrator and then began teaching at CSULB, USC, and APU. I teach Anatomy for Artists, Life Drawing and Printmaking. I also am in a few art shows each year.
My next show is in Culver City, LA and January 8, 2019. I have a solo show at Point Loma University in San Diego. In addition, I have a business called Jamie Silk screen apparel. I use my drawing in silk screens to print t-shirts, and I sew tote bags for printing my silk screen drawings as well.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In my opinion, I don’t think there is an actual smooth road. To me it is a lot of trial and error, working hard, and not quitting.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Jamie Silk Screen Apparel – what should we know?
My company Jamie silkscreen apparel is created from my pen and ink drawings that I transfer into silk screen for printing. I print on cloth and sew it into handmade tote bags. I also print the images on T-shirts.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
For me, teaching art shows and my silkscreen business all comes for my love of drawing. I think not giving up is essential for success.
